How to Keep Your Eyeliner on All Day #doyourmakeup

Eyeliner Tutorial Video

Eyeliner is, I think, one of the more complicated processes of doing your makeup. I mean, it’s pretty easy to screw up, right? One of the common reasons women don’t wear eyeliner is because they can’t get it to STAY ON, for goodness’ sake, and no one looks cute with her eyeliner down around her ankles, youknowwhatImean?  Sometimes even if you have a good-quality eyeliner, the characteristics of your skin (oily, etc.) can make it hard to keep it on. And the skin under your eyes is very different from the skin on the rest of your face.

No matter what your skin type, I’ve got two QUICK, EASY tips to help you keep your liner on ALL DANG DAY. Take three minutes to watch and change your makeup routine and probably your LIFE for the better!

Ok, to recap!

Step 1: start with a DECENT liner. Some of my favorite drugstore liners are Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips custom enhancing eyeliner (these come in trios), CoverGirl Liquiline Blast, and Almay Wake Up eyeliner + highlighter.

Option 1: Use an eyeliner brush to apply pressed powder underneath your lash line where the liner will be. Then apply liner over top. The powder helps keep the liner in place.

Option 2: Use a cream shadow pencil (like CoverGirl flamed out shadow pencil) in a light color and apply it underneath your lash line where the liner will be. Then apply liner over top. The cream shadow holds the liner in place.

Ta-DA! That’s IT!! So easy, right? Give it a try and let me know what you think!

The BEST {and worst} Drugstore Mascaras Part TWO!

Best Drugstore Mascara part 2

You’d think after my last Drugstore Mascara Compar-a-palooza post, I’d never need to purchase another mascara ever again. But, you see, they keep making new ones, AND I HAVE A SICKNESS apparently! So since I work the drugstore to get cheap and free makeup, I keep buying them. 🙂 And you? You get reviews on the latest and greatest drugstore mascaras so you know what to buy! Here’s my latest loves and losses! Once again, I am grading them on an A to F scale.

Get your eyelash curlers ready! Here we go!

CoverGirl Flamed Up Mascara

Since I really, really, really liked CoverGirl Flamed OUT mascara, I was all “ooohhhh!” when I saw Flamed Up at the store and I scooped some up immediately. I LIKE it, I really do. It goes on great with little clumping, and stays on beautifully, and provides terrific volume. Do I think it lives up to it’s “mega-curl mascara” claim? Not really. It’s a great mascara but if you’re looking for a mascara to curl your lashes, I’d go elsewhere, or just do what I do, and curl them before hand. Still, it is a great product, so I give it an A-!

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal Mascara

Even though some of the Maybelline mascaras I tried previously weren’t my favorite, I couldn’t help but try more because THERE ARE JUST SO MANY OF THEM!! And, I am glad I did! I love this The Colossal mascara. It gives great length and volume and stays on really well. I really can’t say enough about it. If you are looking for a great straight-off-the-shelf mascara that will make your lashes look great, I highly recommend it. I give it an A!

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Colossal Mascara

Buoyed by my love of the Colossal, I gleefully picked up the Colossal Cat Eyes on sale (with a coupon) soon after. And…major disappointment. I feel like it just basically does nothing when used alone. With it’s curved brush, it does flare lashes pretty well when used as a top coat over another mascara, and that provides a nice effect. But alone, it doesn’t do much – I feel like it’s not the same length-and-volume providing formula of plain old Colossal. Sooo…on it’s own, I give it a C-. As a topcoat, I give it an A – but not sure I’d pay full price for it just to use it as a topcoat.

L’Oreal Paris Voluminous® Butterfly Mascara

Butterfly

Well, I am a sucker for a mascara with a gimmick so I knew I had to have this as soon as it came out! However, like the true cheapskate I am, I waited for it to be on sale and until I had a coupon. It was WORTH THE WAIT! I LOVE it. Love, love, love! It has this crazy brush:

Which takes some getting used to, but WOW does it work. It lengthens, it flares lashes outward, and it gives great volume. AND it stays on. I adore it. I can’t wait to get it in waterproof and another color! It’s grade? A +!

CoverGirl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast

If you saw my video review of this mascara a couple weeks ago, you already know I love it! The two-formula system is genius. I love the fat, short-bristled plastic brush of step 1. It gives great volume with no clumps. The step 2 brush and formula lengthen lashes and had a more intense darkness. My personal formula for Bombshell success is two coats of step 1 and one coat of step 2. I have short, thin lashes, so I need a lot of mascara, but you might not need as much. It took me awhile to figure out how this mascara worked best for me, but once I did – I’m a lifer. I LOVE IT!! It also gets an A+.

L’Oreal Voluminous® False Fiber Lashes™ Mascara

falsefiber

Part of the reason I tried this mascara and the Butterfly is because in the comments on my last mascara post, several people suggested I try L’Oreal Voluminous. Due to my aforementioned love of gimmicky mascaras, I decided to try the “false fiber” version next. Like I mentioned, my lashes are thin, so I was excited about these fibers that would help thicken them. Well, I can say I was not disappointed – BUT it took me awhile to get used to this mascara. First, I found out (the hard way) that it comes out pretty thickly on the brush, so I had to WIPE the brush off on the edge of the tube and apply sparingly. A little goes a LONG way. My final determination? I really like the thickening quality of this mascara and the intensity it gives to my lashes, but I prefer to use it as a 2nd-coat mascara and use something else underneath. (Works great with Butterfly if you want a L’Oreal one-two punch!) i give it a B on its own, and an A when used on top of another mascara.

And finally…

Maybelline the Rocket mascara by Volum’ Express

vex-rocket-washable_pack-shot

The Rocket! I had to try it. I mean…the name suggests explosive lashes, right? This mascara also uses a plastic brush with short bristles…I am starting to like this type of brush no matter what tube it comes out of. The Rocket formula is awesome! It makes my lashes super-long and it’s just simple and quick to achieve a great look with this. I know when I pull this one out of my makeup bag, I can’t go wrong. It stays on perfectly well, too. No smudging ever. I give it an A+!

That’s all I’ve got for now…but as long as they keep making mascaras, I’ll keep buying and testing them!

Have you tried any on this list? Which are your picks and pans?

CoverGirl Bombshell Tutorial

As you may remember from my post where I tested ALL THE MASCARAS, I *love* mascara. As a matter of fact, I can’t stop buying them, and I need to do a “Part 2” to that mascara-testing post since I’ve tried at least 10 more since then.

When I saw about a month ago that CoverGirl was coming out with a new mascara, “The Bombshell”, I got ALL EXCITED! I even paid full price for it (well, with a coupon, but it wasn’t on sale) because I couldn’t wait to get it. AND THEN, CoverGirl came out with a whole set of eye shadows and eyeliners to go with. Wheee! AND THEN, my dream came true and CoverGirl asked me to do a sponsored review of these products, make a video tutorial of how I got my Bombshell look, and give you guys a chance to win a $100 Walmart gift card.

Umm…let me think about it…YES I will do that!

I had so much fun reviewing these products and getting my Bombshell look. Check out my video tutorial below and then scroll down for more info on the products and information on how you can win a $100 Walmart gift card…you can get these fab CoverGirl Bombshell products at Walmart and Walmart.com. The Walmart gift card and information have been provided by CoverGirl.

Easy, right? If I weren’t such a TALKER, that could’ve been a two-minute video!

Here’s a pic of me after I finished the video:

What makes this look so quick to apply is really the ease of applying the Bombshell ShineShadow. It’s so much quicker than powder eyes hadow. That’s just one of the many things I like about these products. I tried them each several times before I did my video review so I could make sure and give a very thorough review. Here are a couple more #bombshelling looks:

Here you can see how the Ice Queen shade of Bombshell Shine Shadow stands out really well on its own!

and

Bombshelling 2
Here I used a CoverGirl Eye Enhancers powder shadow with the Ice Queen Bombshell Shine Shadow acting as a highlighter and a primer. Love the way they complement each other!

But anyway…enough of my face. Here’s what I like about the products!

CoverGirl Bombshell Volume by LashBlast™ Mascara: I love the step 1 brush. In my experience, the short bristles allow you to get lots of volume without clumps. The brush and formula on step 2 add great length and do intensify the color. The other thing I love about it is that it is extremely long-wearing.  Just to show you an example, here’s me 10 hours after I shot that video, in my fuzzy bathrobe…I did NO eye makeup touch-ups that day. As you can see, the Bombshell mascara (and intensity eyeliner as well) still looks GREAT.

Just a note, the Bombshell mascara comes in three colors: Black, Very Black, and Black/Brown. I am wearing Very Black.

CoverGirl Bombshell ShineShadow by LashBlast: I am a sucker for cream eyeshadow anyway, and I am also a SHIMMER QUEEN, so how could I not love these shadows? They really are very, very, shimmery and extremely fast and easy to apply. A little goes a long way, and you can put it on lightly or heavily to customize your look. It stays on fabulously well, and I honestly couldn’t love it any more. I cannot wait to get ALL THE COLORS!

CoverGirl BombShell Intensity Liner: As I mentioned in the video, I love how the short length of the pen and the felt tip make this so easy to apply. And, as you’ll see from my photo above, it is extremely long-wearing. It didn’t budge! The intense dark color is awesome for a dramatic look. It’s a great product. It also comes in another color, Chocolate Kiss, which I think I’m gonna have to procure as well. I’m wearing Pitch Black Passion in the video and in the photo above.

Ok, so NOW you get the chance to win a $100 Walmart gift card so you can go get yourself one heck of a CoverGirl Bombshell look! Here’s how to enter, it’s really easy!
