Waking Up is Hard to Do

I like to sing “Waking Up is Hard to Do” to the tune of the oldie “Breaking Up is Hard to Do”.

Because dang.  I am terrible at sleeping and terrible at waking up!

My first thought upon waking used to be “When can I go back to sleep?”  Now it’s more like, “NOOO!!!!!!!! I’m ASLEEP FOR ONCE!  PLEASE DON’T MAKE ME WAKE UP!”  And yes, I do think that one IN CAPS.

I’ve been up now for an hour and my eyes are still heavy.  I had nightmares this morning that I was actually glad to wake up from, but they left  me so, so sleepy.  And slightly traumatized.

So, I’m off to the coffee pot.  And maybe to do some jumping  jacks.  Just kidding, that would be exercise.

But seriously.  What do YOU do to help yourself wake up?  I need some new tricks!

  1. I HATE getting out of bed. I LOVE sleep. So the only thing that I have found that entices me to get up is to start thinking (while my eyes are still closed and I’m still cuddled up under covers) about all the things I should do that day. Blogs to write, work to do, cleaning to get to, items to read, shows to watch, etc. Once my mind starts working and thinking about everything, even if I wanted to go back to sleep, I couldn’t. So, I get up and start on my list.

  2. Set your alarm clock to talk radio, preferably something you are passionately for or against. The conversation will get your mind moving in the morning and sometimes your blood pressure! It certainly does wake you up.

  3. It never fails!

Every morning, somewhere between 5:15 and 5:30, the radio station on my alarm clock plays a song by Lady Gaga.

Nothing will get me out of bed faster… if anything just to turn off the music!

  4. I’m a morning person. I”m totally awake the minute I wake UP. I love to walk and work out in the AM as well. Gets the motor running (Steppenwolf).

But, in the rare event I’m groggy….COFFEE, er excuse me, Redneck Latte!

    UP

  5. Are you able to meet another person for coffee? Or have them come to your house? If I know that I am supposed to meet someone or someone is coming to my house then I KNOW I have to get up so that I am not either late or disappointing someone….COFFEE is fabulous as well! Good luck! They do say that exercise in the morning helps too…but I see you are not really an exercise person…LOL! “)

  6. Hey, I was reading through some of your blog, and I can’t help but notice that you and your cousin seem to have trouble sleeping, and I used to be the same way. I took some melatonin on the advice of a friend, and it works like a charm! Just straight up Melatonin, the time release kind, in 5mg tablets, no other herbs or spices, lol.

I have tried EVERYTHING, but this is the only thing that has ever worked.
