Happy Cataversary

Today is my ninth wedding anniversary. I would like to say, congratulations to me for getting such a wonderful man to put up with me for so very long. Yay me!

For my first anniversary, my husband gave me a kitten and named him “Paper” – because according to the old gift-giving tradition, your first anniversary is your “paper” anniversary. He was the cutest little furball ever. Now he’s a GIANT fat, lazy, grumpy cat, but I still love him!

When Paper was a few months old, I decided he needed a playmate, and so we got another kitten. We named him Jack, until we found out he was a she, and then we named her Molly. She was very sweet and very snuggly.

(Paper and Molly breaking in the new glider rocker my mom bought us when I was pregnant with Joshua)

We all lived happily together for several years, until I had the audacity to have a baby. Then, I all of a sudden didn’t love the cats nearly as much as I used to. They just weren’t nearly as cool as my kid!

A couple of years later, after I had Sophie, I could hardly put up with Molly any more. She, like every other member of our household, wanted to be ON me all. the. time. And she meoooowwwed all the time when she couldn’t be on me! I just couldn’t take it anymore, so we found her a good home with my friend Megan & her family. Where, I am surprised to say, she actually lasted 14 months!

Until last night, my anniversary-eve, when she finally overstayed her welcome at Megan’s and came back home to live with us. Rumor has it she was urinating on Megan’s laundry, but I am sure they are just making that up. My sweet little Molly? NEVER!

So, it’s happy cataversary again! Everyone’s still settling in, so I’m not quite sure how this will pan out, but I am sure it will be fine, and Joshua, whose love for Molly NEVER wavered, is THRILLED to have her home.

But if girlfriend starts peeing on my clothes, she’s going to find herself in a new OUTDOOR home very soon!

  1. Over the past 32 years, we’ve had seven dogs (gave onr away when Shelby was born, one ran off, Daggy DIED – we were sad, Teniqua and Tallulah-gave away, Mugly-died, Lola-gave away only this Sunday) and 2 cats, both of whom mysteriously vanished – cats do land on their feet, even when falling from a speeding car window!!) If Lola comes back, I’m faxing her to you! Life does begin when the kids move out and the dog dies!!

  2. Oh my! I have to say, even though I’m a dog person, I always thought Molly was a sweetie (unless she was snagging my clothes with her pawing).

You are a good person for being responsible and taking her back when her new home didn’t work out. Maybe she just needs Paper by her side?

  3. Molly always made me sneeze… and she wanted to sit my by me when I was visiting, even though I was horribly allergic. Hopefully she’ll just hide in the basement like Paper when I’m over next.

But Faith will be happy she lives with you again. I’ll have to tell her the “good” news.

  4. Happy anniversary! And…congrats?…on getting your cat back. 🙂 We have two cats as well, and I’ve tried to give away Peanut, the one who ALWAYS wants to be petted and mews when I don’t do it, multiple times. So far, no takers, though.

  5. Happy Anniversary! We’ll be married 9 years this August, and on our first anniversary, we found 3 abandoned kittens. My brother-in-law took one, and we kept the other two. We’re leading parallel lives, Jenny! 🙂

  6. Happy Anniversary! And we are totally thinking the same thing about our cat these days. And she looks A LOT like Molly.

You are a fashion editor though, surely you could start a new trend!

  7. Happy Anniversary dear Jenny and Bobby. Please give dear Sophie and Joshua a hug and kiss from us. i was just looking at the dear pic of ellie resting her cheek on sophies head when she was sad. i ordered it from snapfish last week. so cute.

  8. Pets. They all seem like such a good idea at the time. Here’s our rundown since we were married…
1st cat–Kiki–found as a stray, gave to my parents when she was peeing blood and vet wanted $2000 just to diagnose the problem. she lasted many more years OUTSIDE.
2nd cat–Chessie–got at a shelter b/c we were SURE Kiki needed a “friend.” gave to my parents when she started pooping on the bed when she was mad at us. She lived in the barn and disappeared one day.
Daisy–the golden puppy we picked out at 2 days old. Waited 8 weeks to get her. In the meantime, found out we were pregnant with Nick. A new puppy, a 2 yr old, and a pregnant woman are not a good combination. Gave her back to the breeder for a full refund.
3rd cat–Dingle–got at a shelter because he was just so playful and cute. He got kicked outside when the world became his litterbox. Lived out there for 8 yrs until we moved and we gave him to friends who have a farm.
2nd dog–Maggie the flat coated retriever. Bought her for (gasp) $900 from a breeder. Turned out to be the most dominant, unpredictable dog in the world. Couldn’t deal with her aggressive tendencies. Trainer thought she was brain damaged b/c her behavior was so erratic. Gave her back to the breeder and didn’t get a dime back.
4th cat–Mowana–picked him up from church camp (of the same name) and he, so far, still lives with us even though he peed on the leather furniture. Twice.
    Fish–didn’t last long
    Hamsters—pain in the butt
Kids–I’d return them to the breeder, but the breeder won’t take them back. HA!
And yet I still go to Petsmart and oogle all the new kitties there.
    I’m sick.

  9. I feel just AWFUL about giving her back but after about the 4th time she peed on Aleigha’s bedspread and then on MY sweater, I was just done…I think she missed Paper 🙂 I hope you don’t hat me forever 🙁

  10. A strange little connection I have with your story….. I have 3 children, the first 2 are named Jack and Molly…. (the 3rd is Peter)I do love your name selection!

M=By the way, I also have 2 cats, but they are not named Joshua and Sophie (they are Daisy and Rosie….)
