On Being Shredded

So a couple weeks ago, when I was in a very special – magical – place, I heard these two

Andrea from MommySnacks and Maria from BSM Media
talking about how they got their crazy-hot bods.

They kept talking about something called “The Shred
.” I feign ignorance, but of course I had heard of it – Andrea had been tweeting about it for weeks! So I stuffed my face with chocolate and fruity drinks listened intently and made a mental note to google “The Shred” when I got back to Ohio.

Long story short, but happy Mother’s Day to me, I get an exercise DVD! I would have rather had a blender.

Just kidding! I picked it up off the shelf at Best Buy the night before MD, and told Andy to buy it for me. (A girl has to make sure she gets a MD gift, right? Just kidding! Ok I’m not kidding on that one).

ANYWAY… the DVD has made a lovely coaster since then, but tonight I finally broke it out. And it felt GOOD.

It’s 20 minutes… a very hardcore 20 minutes, but still – 20 minutes. I found time to do it today, despite having worked all day, attended my first grad class of the summer, missing a t-ball game, cooking defrosting dinner (thank you Once a Month Mom!), and getting the kids off to bed. It was 20 minutes, and I knew I could fit it in.

I did, and it felt fantastic. This is the workout made for me.

A bold statement, I know. And let’s hope that tonight was not a fluke, and that I can make it through the next 29 days of the 30 day Shred. I really liked the way Jillian motivates, and I’m going to keep at it.

Did you hear that, everybody?

We’ll talk in 30 days.

  1. Yeah, Em!!!! I’m so happy another person is doing this with me! I need to get my butt in gear and start on Level 2. It’s hard to do while you’re running too – you need lots of energy but it is possible.

Like I said on facebook last night. People better have their quarters ready because there’s gonna be some bouncin’ going on…OFF OUR AWESOME BUTTS!!!

And, Jenny girl, get that pilates dvd back in and we’ll let you in the quarter bouncin’ butt rotation too, k??!!!

  2. Great! Thanks for sharing. I’ve been making a mental note since the next the last show and the Finale when I got hooked on BL. So here goes…. stay tuned. too. 🙂 And keep me posted. 😉

  3. I think I’m the only one in the world who doesn’t like this workout! I like my old school, Kathy Smith tapes. She gets called some very ugly names by me, but her workouts are amazing. If you ever want to step up from Jillian, give Kathy a try.

  4. I bought The Shred after having my baby and tried it… once. I really do need to do it again but will have to make some wardrobe changes (;)) in order to do jumping jacks! 🙂

  5. You like The Shred? Because it’s KILLING ME. Then again, I realized yesterday (as I laid on the floor, begging God to take me now or at least let me stop sweating) that it’s been THREE YEARS since I did exercise other than walking.

I just walked down the hall to go to the bathroom. And I need to say this: Sitting on a toilet should not be so difficult!

  6. I want to agree with you that I like the Shred, I really, really do. I want to say that it makes me feel energized with an appetite for nothing but wheatgrass and limes.

But the truth is I HATE the Shred. I make up excuses all day long and then whine that no one should have to put themselves through this at the end of a hard day.

    Motivational, I’m not.

  7. Hey, I bought my own Mother’s Day gift too. 🙂 Handed it to Mike and said, “This is what I want.”

I got pool fitness stuff (foam dumbells and a buoyancy belt) I did it once, then we hit the rainy season. I feel like I’m in Ohio!

  8. I just got it too, after first day I was having trouble walking up the stairs and sitting….she kills with those squats but I have not heard anybody say they did not shape up with this DVD, I’m with you….I can’t wait to see 30 days

  9. Hate. Jillian. What that woman did to my quads the first time I shredded was criminal. I haven’t made it through 30 days yet. I always get about 6 days in and then take a break and then go back to it. Funny, I always seem to take that break when I am ready for level 2 and take a long enough break that I have to start over again on level 1. But I have faith that one of these times I will stick to it.
