On the topic of food…

Jenny’s post yesterday and the Smart Ones breakfast sandwich I’m currently eating (Dear Smart Ones people, Mark this one down in the “not a hit” category. Not worth five points, my friends. Love, Emily) AND our good buddy Andrea’s current post (and GIVEAWAY) about YoPlus yogurt has me thinking… about food!

Jenny and I are always looking for new ideas for things to eat, and I’ve heard her mention more than once that she struggles with figuring out what to make for lunch for herself. Cousin, here is my list of ideas.
— Turkey sandwiches
— Lean Cuisines
— Ummmm… yeah, that’s all I’ve got. Which is why I go out for lunch all the damn time. But anyway, help the girl out and leave some comments, will you?

I have discovered a few snacks this week that I’m absolutely obsessed with, so I thought I’d share them with you! In no particular order:
— YoPlus yogurt. I am totally not a yogurt person, but this stuff is great. I love the strawberry kind.
— Real popcorn, not the microwave variety. How have I never discovered this before? I don’t know. But it’s soooo good. And cheap. And fiber-ific.
— Kashi crackers. Yummy and 15 of these babies are only one point!
— String cheese. I didn’t just discover this, but I eat it a lot!
— Clementines. Delicious and ZERO points!

So that’s my list – what do you have to add to it??

P.S. Are you hungry now? Then stop by Reviewin’ It Up – we’re giving away dinner! Enter to win Pizza Hut’s Tuscani Lasagna… yum!

  1. We make our own trail mix. Right now ours consists of peanuts, raisins, dried cranberries, cheerios, a little bit of chocolate morsels, and a few rice chex. I load in the raisins and dried cranberries. You can use practically anything that tastes good… it will just taste even better together.

  2. Soup makes a great lunch. Specifically the progresso ones that are zero points for 1 serving (or 1-2 points for 2 servings). Some of them are tasty 🙂

  3. I am trying to get in the habit of making a humongous salad (greens and veggies that won’t go bad in a few days) on Monday. Then, each day for lunch, I’ll have a salad with leftovers from the night before. Fantastic after a chicken or a salmon night!! 🙂

  4. I do the lean cuisine thing for lunch so I don’t know if I can help much, but sometimes I bring Healthy Choice soup instead.

As for snacks, my fav right now is celery with buffalo wing sauce and lowfat ranch. It’s like wings without the wings.

  5. I do big salads with lots of protein on them (usually chicken), some veggies, a small handful of craisins, a few pistachios, and some feta. I’m also a fan of soup when I’m too lazy to make a salad.

  6. I’m a Lean Cuisine girl myself. I love the Brick Oven BBQ Chicken Pizza and the Pannini’s the best. I try to vary my snacks. I love string cheese, or Jello-O (not the sugar free stuff) or Pudding cups.

  7. Tuna salad on Wheat Thins! I love it. One batch gets me about 4 lunches. And since there’s so much protein in it, I actually feel full and don’t snack my way through the afternoon.

  8. My current favorite is apple slices spread with peanut butter and dipped in granola. It’s surprisingly filling. Or apple slices with cheddar slices. Yum!

  9. I hate lunch… I can never figure out what to make, and then, well, it’s just one more meal I have to make. I like the smart ones chicken quesadillas, but more often than not, I’m going for leftovers because I don’t want to work that hard.

  10. ooooo- which kashi crackers are 15 for one point? With a laughing cow wedge, that could be a great snack.

  11. Yea, not a big fan of those breakfast sandwiches!

I’ll make some 4oz 4pt 93% burgers and keep them in the freezer. Add 1pt kraft reduced fat cheese and put it on either a lt. hamburger roll or arnolds sandwich thin and it’s 6 points but so filling!

ham & cheese melt on lt. hamburger roll for 3-4pts depending on the ham qty, lol.

I eat the lean cuisines or smartones meals pretty regularly for lunch too!

  12. Lean cuisines are the excellent, they don’t have any unnecessary fillers, just a well put together meal. However, there are ones that are a little better that others, so its good to try them all once.

  13. While it is cold outside, I love to have Hormel 98% Fat Free Vegetarian Chili, tons of fiber and protein, low in calories and fat. It is yummy. Sometimes I add a tbs. of fat free sour cream too.
