Always Vacation Near a CVS!

This post is going to have to be picture-less because I forgot to bring my camera cord on vacation. Whoops! 🙁 I hit CVS on Sunday to get some deals before we left town on Monday. Here’s what I got!

Two Lamisil foot spray $15.18
Two Playskool wipes $5
One Alavert allergy medicine $5.99
1 CVS brand Cotton swabs $1.50
Total = $27.67

Coupons I used:
CVS $3/$15 (my CVS will take this for 30 days after expiration. It expired 7/20/08)
Two $3 off Lamisil Walgreens EasySaver catalog q’s
$3 off Lamisil manu q
$4 off Lamisil manu q
$4 off Alavert manu q
$2 Playskool wipes email coupon (thanks CVS!!!)
$2 off Playskool wipes CRT (thanks again!!)
$1 off Playskool wipes manu q
$2 off CVS skincare product (works on the cotton swabs)
Total = 67 cents!! With tax I paid $1.49, used zero ECBs and got back 13 ECBs 10 for the Lamisil and 3 for the Alavert!! Woot Woot! The wipes and cotton swabs also count toward the “buy $25, get 5 ECB” baby deal going on, which I am hoping to get a chance to finish when I get home from vacation on Saturday night. We’ll see.

Once we got to Virginia, my BFF Luanne (whose family is vacationing with us) needed some things, and she had a brand spankin’ new $25 CVS gift card from a new prescription she got. I do Luanne’s CVSing for her, so I had her card and CRTs with me also. About 60% of the time when I use her ExtraCare card, it prints her out a $4/$20 CRT. It is just unbelievable and makes me totally jealous! I have NEVER gotten one of those! She didn’t have any ECBs, but over the course of a couple days we did 5 transcations at the local CVS and with CRTs, coupons and ECBs earned we got some great deals! We used $24.26 on her gift card. Here’s what we got:

Six 12 packs of Coke
Three CVS spray hand sanitizer pens
Two CVS brand aloe for after sun
Two CVS brand hand lotion
$10 worth of bagged candy
Three Jumbo boxes of CVS tampons
One Infants Advil
Two packs of AA Energizer batteries
One Energizer battery charger
1 CVS brand generic Claritin allergy medicine
1 Alavert allergy medicine

Shew! All that alone with coupons and ECBs would have cost over $90! Thank goodness there is a CVS in this little Virginia town!

Well, that’s all I’ve got this week…sorry for the lack of photos! For more great couponing adventures (probably with pics!) check out CVS Superstars at The Centsible Sawyer and Super Savings Saturday at Money Saving Mom!

Put This in Your Teapot and Brew It!

The mountain top spot we’ve been visiting this week is near the quaint, historic town of Lexington,Virginia, home to Virginia Military Institute, Washington and Lee University and the Stonewall Jackson Museum and Tomb, among other historic sites. The downtown area has many cute antique and gift shops, so yesterday my BFF Luanne and her daughter and friend headed out sans babies and males to do some window shopping. We hit some bookstores, a coffee shop, and some gift shops and then wandered into an antique shop on Washington St. where a certain teapot caught Luanne’s eye.

“How much do you want for this teapot?” she innocently asked the man behind the counter.

What?” he shot back sharply.

“Um…the teapot? How much do you want for it?”

He gave her a hard look, and then said, in the most pompous voice, “A lot of money.” (As in, “you couldn’t afford it so get out of my shop and quit wasting my time”.)

Rightfully offended, Lu said, “Well, how much is ‘a lot of money’?”

“A hundred and twenty-five dollars.”

He then started blowing some steam about the history of the teapot, but seriously, all Luanne could do was think of things to say to him that she is too nice to say.

After we quickly left the shop, she said, “I thought he was going to tell me seven or eight hundred dollars. I mean I assumed the thing was going to be over a hundred dollars! Do I look like I couldn’t give him $125??”

“No, you look totally HAWT and totally loaded,” I said, “he’s just a jerk.”

So, Mr. Antique-loving-Yankee-woman-hating-condescending-jerk, way to NOT sell yourself a teapot. Instead of making $125 yesterday, you lost a few customers with big mouths and a blog. I don’t know if you’re just emotionally attached to the teapot and want to snuggle up with it in your bed at night, or if you just hate people, or what, but I suggest you find a career that is not in retail (although I imagine you only get about five customers a day anyways). Maybe try eBay, where you don’t have to deal with customers face-to-face, or better yet, just build yourself a lean-to on the mountain and hermit up!

We’re gonna go hit the Hallmark next door and blow $125 on Webkinz and Yankee Candles. Smell ya later!

Vacation = Relaxation and Sleep Deprivation?

This week Bobby and I and the kids are at my parents’ summer house in Virginia, high atop a mountain. My parents had to go back to Ohio this morning because my dad, a teacher, has to go back to work. Fortunately, we brought my BFF Luanne and her family with us for entertainment. 🙂 And we are having a great time! We are relaxing and going out on outings, cooking and eating meals together, and just enjoying down time. It’s great not having to worry about schedules and paying bills and keeping commitments. What’s not great is that since we’re not home, we’re not getting much sleep!

It’s kind of funny, but this week I’ve realized that there is no such thing as vacation when you have little kids. Sophie doesn’t sleep well away from home, which means I don’t either. Of course neither her nor Joshua wants to sleep in past seven! There’s just too much to do and see! So Bobby and I have been taking turns getting up early with them – but after nights staying up late watching movies and playing games with our friends, we are both pretty pooped!

Ah well, maybe in 3 or 4 years, we can make Joshua get Sophie’s breakfast and put on a video while we go back to sleep. Until then, we’ll just have to come home from vacation tired. It’s worth it to get away from it all. I’m just glad I’ve taken so many pictures to help me remember the details! ‘Cause to be honest, yesterday is kind of fuzzy already!
