If You Don’t Have Anything Nice to Say…

“…Come sit by me.”

This is one of my favorite lines I remember my famous Uncle Paul saying (perhaps repeatedly, UP?) over the years. As a result, he’s got lots of great tales to tell!

So allow me to spread a little HYPE around my corner of the blogosphere: in just a few short weeks, Uncle Paul, everyone’s favorite blog commenter, is starting his OWN blog!!

Now Uncle Paul is not a mommy, so it is not going to be a mommy blog. Although he IS a daddy, he is also an empty-nester. He even kicked the dog out. So the topics might not be what you are used to reading, but I promise you, they are going to be hilarious! I have already christened Uncle Paul “the heterosexual David Sedaris” as well as “the world’s first Baptist metrosexual”. I mean LOOK how TAN he is in this picture! Now I will admit I am quite white, but this level of Beach Bronze is not exactly in our family genes.

with my famous Uncle Paul!

So…anyways…this is just a teaser! HYPE! Get excited! And I’ll let you know when UP makes his debut!

Long September

Remember that Counting Crows song, “Long December”? It’s kind of a mournful song about a month that went wrong. Well imagine me growing some Adam Duritz dreadlocks and singing that song about this particular month. September 2009 has been a rough one. It started out great, with my birthday on the 5th, but then hit Labor Day and steadily went downhill.

There is no major tragedy, no life-altering crisis, nothing to set off an alarm about. Just a series of personal and physical events that have left Bobby and me emotionally and physically exhausted. And now, we are both sick – some kind of bug that my doctor gave me an antibiotic for – just to give me something – but that yet is making us both feel terrible.

Sophie was sick at the end of last week and the beginning of this week, so I haven’t seen my friends in a week – no playdates, no coffee dates, no adult conversation! I miss them.

And to top things off, our TiVo appears to be broken this morning! How am I supposed to survive without TiVo?? I mean I might really die if I have to watch shows when they are actually on AND watch commercials. Currently I am letting Sophie watch a DVD on our laptop because the TiVo is also our DVD players, and she got me up an hour early (6:10 Sophie!? Really!!!??) and I am sick and desperate times call for exactly this sort of desperate measure.

So. Woe is me. Waaaah. Waaah. Five days left in this month. Let’s hope they fly by!

Disney on Ice!

So I may have mentioned once or twice (or 95 times) that I’m a Disney fan. Needless to say, I was so excited when we were asked to help promote Disney on Ice “100 Years of Magic” by giving away tickets here, and as a thank you, Jenny and I were given tickets for our families as well (although Jenny’s sick and couldn’t use them, major bummer!).

In any case, let me say this – tonight we experienced the Disney magic right here in Ohio, and it was fantastic. I absolutely loved the show. The costumes, the music, the characters, the stories – it was all amazing. All of our Disney favorites were there, from Pinnochio to Buzz Lightyear. At one point, all the princesses and their respective princes were on the ice, and I thought Kate and her friend were going to pass out from excitement.

Andy and I had so much fun watching the kids. Kate and her friend squealed with delight every time a new character came on the ice, and it was so cute to hear them call out “Mulan! Mickey! Belle!” At one point during the show, they created a replica of the WDW ride “It’s a Small World,” and Kate yelled out “Thank you Mexican people!” I in equal parts wanted to crack up and crawl under my seat.

Here’s how she looked the entire time:

Sammy loved it too – the kid doesn’t sit still often, but he was totally captivated by the sights and sounds of Disney on Ice.

I seriously loved this show. I may or may not have teared up during “It’s a Small World.” And again during the grand finale.

Disney on Ice “100 Years of Magic” will be in Cincinnati through Sunday, September 27 (with three shows Saturday and two shows Sunday), and if you have little (or big!) Disney fans at home, this show is a must-see. Tickets can be purchased on TicketMaster, and you can get four for $44 by using the coupon code “MOM”. This experience is TOTALLY worth it – seriously, that’s the same price as seeing a movie!

Thanks to Mom Central and Disney on Ice for such a great night!
