Mommy is a Buzzkill

Monday I wasn’t feeling well (I’ve got a wicked cold), but I had an appointment to get my hair cut and my brows waxed and there was NO way I was missin’ that. So, I dropped the kids off with my mom at my Grandma’s house so they could visit my Grandma, who thinks her great-grandkids are the bee’s knees. The kids always have the best time there, as my mom & Grandma just playplayplay with them and ply them with sugar before handing them back over to me.

So, when I came to pick the kids up, Joshua wasn’t thrilled to leave. But they’d been there a good three hours and Sophie was ready for a nap. After I got them in the car, I said, “Joshua, did you have fun at Grandma’s today?”

“Yeah, but I’m not having fun now ’cause you’re here.”

Well. Thanks for your honesty, kid.

Later that afternoon, I was feeling really sick and was on the couch in my bathrobe with my tissue box, snuggling with Joshua.

“I’m sad.” he said mournfully.

“Why are you sad baby? Because Mommy’s sick?”

“No, I’m sad because Daddy isn’t here all day.”

Blergh. At least it’s nice to know where I stand.

Call me crazy…

(Jenny, I know you’re going to accuse me of smoking more crack…)

But last night Andy and I booked a trip to Disney World!

And, against our better judgement, we’re taking the kids.

Andy, Kate and I went two years ago, when she was three, and it was sooooo great. We had planned to wait to go again until Sammy was about that age as well, but….

Have you seen the deals they have going right now?? You know the economy is bad when Disney is practically paying people to go there. (Ok so that’s not exactly true…). But seriously, right now they’re running a promotion where if you pay for four days/nights, you get three days/nights for free, including park admission!

I spent a lot of time pricing out different locales for our summer vacation, and really this is such a good deal we couldn’t pass it up. We’ve got Park Hopper passes and the Disney Dining Plan (I like to know exactly how much we’re going to spend – and have it paid for – before we go) and I am soooooo excited.

And feeling a slight bit nervous.

After all, we are going to Disney with a five-year-old and a 19-month-old.

Perhaps we are crazy.

So I need your help, readers, because I know many of you are Disney experts (that means you, Karen. Can you hear me out there or does the sounds of screaming from the Tower of Terror in your back yard drown me out?) and traveling-with-kids experts and just plain Mom experts. Please, leave a comment with your top suggestion for making this trip a success!

And Jenny, our plane tickets are non-refundable, so I don’t want to hear your top suggestion about cancelling the trip, stat. K?

I can’t wait!

Pampers One Pack = One Vaccine Giveaway

Emily and I are proud to be joining Pampers in helping to spread the word about their One Pack = One Vaccine program. This program, is part of a global initiative with UNICEF to wipe out maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT). MNT is a preventable disease that claims the lives of approximately 128,000 infants and 30,000 mothers in less industrialized nations each year – that’s approximately one death every four minutes.

For every specially marked pack of Pampes diapers and wipes you purchase through May 1st in the U.S. and Canada, the funds for one life-saving vaccine will be donated! So by doing something you do ANYWAYS, you can help save a life! In addition, if you are part of the Pampers Gifts to Grow program, you can redeem Gifts to Grow points for a special onesie that will also trigger the donation of a vaccine.

Here’s what this awesome campaign has accomplished in past years, from the campaign’s website:

Funding from the “One Pack=One Vaccine” program has been essential to helping UNICEF provide much-needed tetanus vaccines to help protect moms and their newborn babies in developing nations against tetanus.

1. In the 2008 North America campaign, Pampers provided funding to UNICEF for over 50 million tetanus vaccines to help protect moms and their newborn babies against tetanus.
2. In the 2009 campaign in North America, Pampers aims to raise funds to help provide an additional 30 million vaccines.
3. Thanks to Pampers’ funding, the total global donations have helped UNICEF provide more than 100 million vaccines through August 31, 2008, and the North American goal was far exceeded.
4. The global campaign goal is to provide funding for more than 200 million life-saving tetanus vaccines over the next three years.

So go out and getcha some Pampers, and together we can save a life!! To get you excited about this campaign, Emily and I have a coupon for one FREE pack of Pampers to give away! Here’s how to enter:
