Giveaway: Worry-Free Smoke Alarm from Kidde

We’ve all got lists of things to worry about.

If you’re neurotic like me, you’ve got lists of your lists of things to worry about.

A few years ago, I wrote about the things on my list at that particular time – one of which was changing the batteries in my home smoke alarms.

Seven months later, I wrote about how I still hadn’t changed the batteries and how I laid awake in bed nearly every night worrying about it.

Had I known about Kidde Worry-Free smoke and CO alarms, I could have at least marked that one thing off my list.

These are battery-operated alarms – batteries that last 10 years. They also have a photoelectric smoke sensor that is programmed to minimize false alarms (aka, my cooking). Additionally, they’re location-specific, so the alarms made for hallways have super-bright LED lights, and those for bedrooms have a voice warning for those who may sleep through the traditional beep.

Also? That 10-year battery thing means no chirping.

In addition to manufacturing quality, effective (and not annoying) alarms, Kidde is committed to helping keep kids safe in their homes. Here are some of their recommended links to information on how to protect your family from a fire, handling medications safely, and to educate yourself on how to teach your kids about fire safety.

As we all know, fire safety is serious business. This infographic hit home with me.

Now’s the time to share your brilliance.

Much like her cousin Jenny, Kate loves her some selfies.
Much like her cousin Jenny, Kate loves her some selfies. I love finding gems like this on my phone!

Friends, I am struggling.

With all the uncertainty surrounding Kate right now, I am having a very hard time staying focused on the positive and staying in the moment. I am trying to remind myself that today, she is happy and healthy and swimming and doing everything she wants to do – and that today is all we know for sure anyway.

I am trying to keep myself from worrying, but I am failing miserably.

I know it’s impossible to completely quell the worries and the what-ifs, but there must be ways to control them. I just don’t know what they are.

Which is where you come in.

Tell me – do you have tips? Any daily rituals for being thankful for what is happening right now? Ways you remind yourself to count your blessings?

Is there an app for that?

Eosino-what-o?

The mystery of what’s going on with Kate continues.

We met with a specialist at Cincinnati Children’s this morning, and while we aren’t 100% sure what she has, it looks like she has eosinophilic GI disease. Basically, that means that her body is producing too many of a certain type of white blood cell, which is then causing inflammation in her digestive tract.

But, it might not be that. It might be a parasitic infection, or the beginning of something else. We’re not sure yet.

Kate was hoping to walk away from today’s appointment with a clear diagnosis and directions for what to do or not do, and to be done with it. That’s not what happened, though, and she’s a little discouraged.

I am trying to stay away from the Google.

I feel good that we’re on the right track, and I feel incredibly fortunate that we are close to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, which is THE best place to be treated for these things. So there are definitely positives… I just wish none of this was happening at all.
