Personal shopper? Sign me up.

First of all, this post is in NO WAY sponsored or anything like that. I paid for this service with real money, I promise.

But you guys. Let me tell you about my new favorite thing. It’s called Stitch Fix and I am pretty sure it’s going to revolutionize my life.

Here’s what it is:

Stitch Fix is a personal styling service. You tell us your style, size, and budget preferences, and we send you a package of stylish goodies to try on at home. Each Fix is unique and hand-picked just for you.

So, you go to their site and fill out your style profile. You answer all sorts of questions about yourself and look at pictures and tell them if you like the style of clothes or not. You can even link to your Facebook/Pinterest/Twitter accounts so they can see more about you and what kind of things you like. Then, a personal stylist picks out some clothes and sends them to you with these clever little cards that give you ideas on how to style the pieces, like this:

You decide what you want to keep, pay for it online, and send back the rest in a postage paid already-addressed envelope they include in the box.

It is genius. Genius, I tell you!

I got my first fix a couple of weeks ago, and it was so fun to get a box of surprise clothing! The presentation was fantastic – everything was wrapped in tissue paper and really lovely. I ended up only keeping one shirt, but I can’t wait to try it again.

Have any of you tried Stitch Fix? What did you think?

Go Flush Yourselves! (For Good)

MIUFFGdisclosure2

A month or so ago, Jenny told you about our involvement with American Standard’s Flush for Good campaign. (Perhaps you remember the vlog, live from her toilet? I, for one, haven’t been able to forget. I’ve tried.) From her post, we learned that around the world 3 children die every minute as a result of dirty water and poor sanitation. Three children every minute. It’s crazy to think about.

What you may not know is that Tuesday, November 19th was World Toilet Day. I bet you didn’t even know that Toilet Day was a thing, did you? It is, and it’s been around since 2001. The idea is to raise awareness about facts like this (found on worldtoiletday.org):

2.5 billion people do not have a clean toilet.

Why does that matter? I mean, beyond just being a very basic necessity?

Because a toilet can be a stepping stone to a healthy life, greater human dignity, freedom, equality between women, men, girls and boys, and finally, a catalyst to the development of communities and countries.

Because illnesses that are a direct result of bad sanitation affect the quality of life of millions of people around the world, especially children. Diarrhoeal diseases are the second most common cause of death of young children in developing countries, killing more than HIV/AIDS, malaria and measles combined, and resulting in 1 death every 20 seconds.

Because there is a strong link between the absence of good sanitation and poverty.

Because sanitation is a Human Right. In 2010, the UN General Assembly recognized sanitation and water as a human right, essential to the full enjoyment of life and all other human rights.

Because safe toilet facilities keep girls in school. Especially for adolescent girls, clean and private toilet facilities at school strongly influence their performance, and increase the chance to complete their education.

The good thing is – we can do something about this. This month, American Standard will donate a sanitary toilet system to a developing country for each Champion Toilet purchased. Additionally, for every 100 likes or shares they get on Facebook, they’ll donate an additional pan.

So instead of sharing yet another cat video, do us all a favor a share the Flush for Good campaign instead! You can also show your support by taking a pledge to do small things like turn off the water while you brush your teeth or to take shorter showers. Easy enough, right?

If I haven’t convinced you yet, take a look at the little faces in this video.

Now, go forth and share this on Facebook! It’s the easiest important thing you’ll do all day.

Proof that Jenny is more influential than Miley.

As you may have heard, the Oxford Dictionary added “selfie” to their list of real, actual words this week. Evidently that was the best that 2013 had to offer.

(Dear History Book Writers of the Future,
We’re sorry.
Sincerely,
Everyone Alive in 2013)

According to Time magazine, here’s the justification:

“We don’t enter that many words from pop culture,” says executive editor Steve Kleinedler. “When we do they are ones that tend to be very widespread, very ubiquitous, used without further explanation.” And selfie, he says, is an example of a word that has become organically popular in a short period of time. “It’s a good word that shows the pulse of the nation,” he says.

The pulse of the nation. It is no freaking wonder the whole country is going to pot.

“Selfie” narrowly beat out “twerking,” a word made well-known by the unfortunate performance that we can’t un-see by Miley Cyrus at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, for word of the year.

Miley might be famous for twerking, but we all know who is famous for selfies.

There are more where that came from. So many, many, many more.
There are more where that came from. So many, many, many more.

Jenny’s facebook wall pretty much exploded when news of the new official word broke. Who would have thought Jenny was so influential?!? We will definitely have to add this accomplishment to our media kit – I mean, not many bloggers can say that their face single-handedly got a word into the dictionary. This goes to show that Jenny is not only more influential than Miley, but she’s also more influential than me, because not long ago I proposed that “selfie” be among several other incredibly annoying words that should be abolished.

Jenny won this round.

Jenny loves taking pictures of herself not because she’s vain, but because she thinks she looks so damn good all the time. She just can’t resist. She loves her face that. much.

Wait, maybe it is because she’s vain.

Anyway, at her house, the apples aren’t falling far from the tree. Just today she caught Jonah in the act of admiring his reflection. The next thing you know, he’ll be starting his own blog carnival.

At least it’s not a selfie of him twerking.
