What’s Better than a Picnic?

I’m very proud to be co-hosting with three other great bloggin’ mamas, Tesa, Grace , and Tricia, the Hebrew National Better-Than-A-Picnic Picnic in Cleveland on July 3rd!  It’s from 11:30-3:30 at Victory Park in Vermilion, and I hope you ALL can join us!  We will have free hot dogs (the world’s best of course!), fruit, and drinks, activities for the kiddos and SO much more.  This is free family fun!  But it is also fun with a purpose.  Why is it “Better-Than-A-Picnic”?  Because we’re not just having fun, we’re giving back.

My co-hosts and I were tasked to find some local charities to support with this picnic.  So, at the picnic, we are collecting, and asking guests to bring, hygiene & specific food items for care packages for soldiers, which will be collected by the USO of Northern Ohio, and hygiene and kid’s items for the Hitchcock Women’s Center in Cleveland, which helps women and children in crisis.  We are SO PROUD to be collecting items for these two important causes!  Here is a full list of what we need to collect for these soldiers, women, and children:

feminine hygiene products (girls and women often can’t go to school or work when they can’t afford this!  I am very excited to donate my pre-pregnancy stockpile!

More items from my stockpile that will be traveling with me to Cleveland.

travel size baby wipes

beef jerky (USO says there’s never enough beef jerky!)

powdered drink mixes (I get boxes of these “on the go” at the dollar store for $1 – great deal!!)

fruit snacks/fruit roll-ups

raisins

I hope you all can come to the picnic!  For more info, see the Hebrew National facebook page and please feel free to email me with any questions.

If you CAN’T make it, but are in the Dayton area and have items you would like to donate (I’m talking to YOU, all my coupon stockpiler friends!!), Tricia and I would LOVE to fill the back of her SUV and my car top carrier with donated products that we will take with us to Cleveland.  So please contact me if you have items you want to drop off this week!  We can meet somewhere and I can take it off your hands.

Thanks so much to Hebrew National and the Motherhood.com for making this great event possible – I can’t WAIT!

P.S. I am totally being compensated for my time and promotion of this event – which is as it should be!  But you know I wouldn’t be involved in anything that wasn’t AWESOME, right?

I swear I have a reason for buying these

$1.65 at CVS

So, I pulled a muscle in my back on Friday and have spent almost the whoooole weekend in bed. About 5:30 tonight I decided I was feeling well enough to go to CVS.  Why?? I had a mission in mind!  You will find out WHY a pregnant woman would buy 4 boxes of tampons in Monday’s post.  I know you are just dying to know, so please check back for that. 🙂

The deal was, buy $20 of Schick or Playtex  products and get back 10 ECB.  This included razors, shave gel, and tampons but I was all about the tampons as you can see.  So here’s how it worked out.

4 boxes Playtex Sport $5.29 each =$21.16

used 4 $1/$1 peelie coupons on the boxes

total = $17.16

I paid with 17 ECB and paid 16 cents + $1.49 tax, so $1.65 total, and I got back 11 ECB, 10 for the tampons and one for using my CVS green bag tag the 4th time (you can 1 ECB every 4th time you use it.)

Not bad for some brand-name tampons that will go to a good cause (which again, you will find out about tomorrow!)

DSC02129
In case you were wondering after my post earlier today, yes I HAVE completely lost my mind. I took both of my kids and headed to Old Navy today! The whole store is 30% off and I couldn’t resist the chance to get myself some maternity clothes and Joshua some school uniform pants for 30% off PLUS I had a $10 off of $50 coupon from Facebook that expired today. I am happy to say we CLEANED UP! Joshua got the Jeff Gordon shirt he is pictured in above – I let him pick out a shirt because I was feeling tres tres generous. Here’s what else I got:

Old Navy haul

Two fold-over skirts $15 each (these are not technically maternity but will serve me well this summer I think!)
Clearance maternity jeans $15.99

Clearance maternity sweater $10.99

Knit maternity shirt $12.50

Clearance Long-sleeve boys baseball tee $1.97

Jeff Gordon tee $10.50

3 pairs of plain front boys’ khaki/navy pants $14.50 each (bought a size up from what Joshua wears now and am crossing my fingers they work in the fall!)

My total with tax was only $78.77 after the 30% and my $10/$50 coupon!! WOW!  I am so excited!

The sale is for a couple more days, and if you can’t get to the store, everything is 30% off online too!  And if you shop through Ebates, you get 2% cash back!  Happy shopping!
