Disney on Ice Winner & Linky Love!

We have a winner! The winner of the family 4-pack to the Disney on Ice 100 Years of Magic performance at US Bank Arena in Cincinnati is our long-time reader Kathy Reichard! Congrats Kathy!

This weekend for your reading pleasure, I wanted to link to some great things I’ve read this week in the blogosphere. First, Melissa at Rock and Drool has a guest post by her BFF Lori who is battling Ovarian Cancer. READ IT!!!! September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, as Emily posted a few days ago. This cause is so important to our family. Please go read Lori’s story and learn learn LEARN about this disease. It is soooo important to learn the signs.

Another September staple is “back-to-school” or “first day of school” posts. I have really enjoyed them as well. What can I say, I am a sucker for a picture of a cute kid in a backpack!! But this school-themed post by my pal Momo, a letter to one of her teachers, made me misty in a different kind of way. It’s a must-read. And after you read it, a must-write.

And on the subject of teachers, my good friend Cortney has a great “Ask the Teacher” feature on her blog every Tuesday. But this week she did a special Saturday version so go check it out and comment or email her with your questions.

Ask the Teacher Tuesday

Cortney will tell you like it is without judging you or your kid in the process, and you don’t even have to schedule a conference with her! Beautiful!

Enjoy!

Sophie, Meet Potty. Potty, Meet Sophie.

Yesterday I literally (it had been in storage for quite awhile!) dusted off Joshua’s old potty seat and decided it was time for Sophie and her “Big Girl Potty” to officially meet. Here are some highlights!

Sophie thought it would be fun to climb onto the potty backwards and try to fit both her little feet in the removable cup:

whatever works

Then she got the cup out and played with it for awhile. Which, even though it was clean, totally grossed me out! Finally, I got her to put the cup back and assume the appropriate position:

I let her watch a little TV so she’d chill on her seat. Word Girl is good potty-time entertainment, FYI.

Twice I put her on the potty with no diaper. The first time, “nothing happened” (just like on her “My Big Girl Potty” book!) The second time, I went in the kitchen to throw her diaper away, and she stood up and peed on the floor while I was in there. Ahh, that’s my girl!

So, anyways, it’s begun. You have lots of pee-pee, poop, and other assorted potty talk to look forward to, and I probably have an increased dosage of anti-depressants, Mountain Dews, and Hershey bars to look forward to. GAME ON!

It’s Like Raaaiiiin On Your Wedding Day

Today I am taking a big leap – I am going to see a specialist about the sleeping problems I’ve been dealing with for oh, saaaay, about five-and-a-half-years now. Problems that have just been getting worse. I am excited and nervous and I really hope this guy can just “fix” me or give me something that will, although surely it won’t be that simple. (But maybe it will! Maybe!)

But seeing as it’s now 4:59 a.m. and I’ve been awake since about 2:30 a.m. on the eve of this appointment (maybe because Alanis Morrisette’s little ditty about irony has been running through my head much of that time), which isn’t until 9:45, I’m pretty much ready to try anything.

Anything to fall asleep and sleep all night without waking a million times, to wake up feeling good, to not be ready for bed before my husband even gets home from work, to not be cranky and desperate-feeling at dinnertime, to have a longer fuse, to be able to sleep on vacation or anytime I’m out of town, anything anything anything.

To sleep, perchance to dream?

I dream of sleeping.

Who would’ve thought? It figures.
