This week we had some big moments in our family. A Labor Day party, Joshua’s first day of preschool, and my 31st birthday. (Thanks for all those lovely comments on the birthday post, BTW.) So, anyways, here are a few of the photos I captured from this week!

Emily’s baby boy, Sammy, gets festive at our Labor Day cookout. Don’t you just want to eat him up??

My wonderful hubby got me a new (75mm) lens for my Sony Alpha DSLR-300k for my birthday!! Yay!! What a great present! Here are some of the photos I took in my front yard when I was trying the lens out for the first time.

Sunny leaves on our maple tree:

Stuff growing on the ginormous old tree stump in our yard:

My neighbor’s tomatoes on our side of the fence. Often I will see squirrels running across the fence carrying a big green tomato! It is a funny sight!

I’ve Been a Bad Girl!

I am feeling very guilty this week. I was very unfaithful to CVS! As a matter of fact, I hardly went to CVS at all! The deals weren’t all that compelling. But I did hit up Walgreens last Saturday to get a couple of last-minute deals. Then I ran to CVS right after cause I felt so guilty. Oh, the shame! Anyways, here’s what I got.

wagsfrieda.JPG
2 John Frieda hairspray BOGO 50% off $9.70 (total)
1 Glade Scented Oil plug-ins BOGO Free $4.79
total = $14.49

coupons: $3/2 John Frieda
$4 off Glade Scented Oil (they wouldn’t take my BOGO coupons BOO WALGREENS!!)
total = $7.49
With tax I paid $8.54 and I got back a NINE DOLLAR register reward for the John Frieda and will get $2.20 rebate for the Glade! oot! Thanks Walgreens! The beauty of this is that you were supposed to be three Frieda products to get the $9 RR, but for some reason, the way Walgreens registers are set up, they think you are buying three when there is a BOGO %50 off sale. I’ll take it!

Next I did this, still at Walgreens:

wagshuggies.JPG
Huggies $9.49
Plates BOGO free $2.99
Chemistry leave-in conditioner $7.99
Total = $20.47

Coupons:
$9 Register Reward from first transaction
$1 off Huggies
$3 off Chemistry hair care from Aug Easy Saver Catalog (last day I could use that q!)
Total = $7.47. With tax it was $8.40. I used $5.34 on a rebate gift card from last month and paid $3.06 cash. I will get back $8.80 rebate for the Chemistry hair care and I got a $2 Register Reward for the Huggies! So I made a good profit on that! Yay!

Finally, on to my measly CVS transaction. (Sorry CVS, you know I love you, but you can do better this week!)

cvscg.JPG

CVS plastic cups $2.79
200 Straws clearance $.49
Two Colgate toothpaste $5.98
1 CoverGirl Wetslicks lip gloss $5.99
Total = $15.25

Coupons:
CVS $2/$10
Two $1 off Colgate manu q’s
$2 off Colgate CRT
$1 off Cover Girl manu q

Total = $8.25
I paid with 7.99 ECB and 49 cents cash and got back 4 ECB for the toothpaste and 5.99 ECB for the Cover Girl! Woohoo! I needed the cups for our Labor Day cookout so I was pleased to get all that for a small profit!

That’s all for me this week. Hope you all did great! To see how everyone else did, check out CVS Superstars at The Centsible Sawyer and Super Savings Saturday at Money Saving Mom!

My Weaner Has a First Name

As I write this, I am sitting on my couch listening to my daughter Sophie chatter over the baby monitor. She is in her crib, but it’s not nap time. She’s there because she wants to nurse, and I want to wean her, and I don’t know what else to do with her. Sometimes she’ll be distracted by a snack, a toy, or a TV show, but this afternoon she’ll have none. She has nursed three times today (it’s about 4:00 P.M.now) and that is the best we’ve ever done. The girl is 21 months old now, and it is beyond time for us to be done nursing. Because before two weeks ago when I really started to try to wean her, Sophie nursed not just in the morning, not just at night, not just at nap time, but whenever she wanted to. Her average was probably 8-10 times a day. It’s just crazy, and exhausting, and as much as I have loved nursing my child, and as much as I have talked about weaning her but not ever done anything about it, I am now READY. Over the past two weeks I’ve really been able to cut back, but the past two days haven’t been so hot. So today I’m trying so hard to stick to my guns.

But I’m sitting here crying on the couch. Nothing feels good or right about any of this. Being a human pacifier didn’t feel good or right, having Sophie try and pull my shirt up in public – definitely not good or right. Having her fuss and climb all over me and having to put her to bed because she wants to nurse and I won’t let her – doesn’t feel good or right either. Now it’s 4:17, and I can’t leave her up there forever!

If someone could please give me a “Magic Weaner” button, that would be super. The process is wearing me down. If I could just wake up tomorrow and be over this hurdle, I’d be one relieved mama.
