Our Seventh Anniversary

Today Andy and I are celebrating our seventh wedding anniversary. June 30, 2001 was a very hot wonderful day!

Our anniversary has made me a little nostalgic, so I thought I would share some pictures of us through the years.

This is us the night we got engaged, my 21st birthday. (That is also my first legal alcoholic drink, a long island iced tea. I don’t mess around!)

This is our official engagement picture.

However, since we got married before the popularization of digital photography, I have no pictures that I can post of our wedding day! But we really did get married, I swear.

And then, a few years later, we became three.

Our first family road trip to Busch Stadium (although she had already been to a Reds game by this point… this little girl visited four different major league stadiums – and at least a dozen games -in her first three years of life!)

And then we became four. Except you wouldn’t know it, because nary a picture exists of all four of us. So you’ll have to take my word for it that I still exist.

On each of our anniversaries, I think back to our first one. At work that day, I mentioned that it was our first anniversary and a co-worker said to me “Do you still like him?” I replied affirmatively, and she said “Well, you’re doing better than I was.” OK so you had to be there, but it was funny. Anyway, seven years later, I still like him. So much so that we’re I have consented to spend our anniversary evening at a Rush concert. That is love, people.

Happy annivesary, baby. I look forward to many, many more.

Apparently My Teeth are Very Sympathetic

True story: when I was 19 years old, I had an appointment to get my wisdom teeth surgically removed. But then I got a kickin’ summer job so I had to cancel the appointment. Because I am an idiot and a scaredy cat, i never re-scheduled the appointment, which was really dumb because back then my parents and their insurance would have paid for it.

About four years later, when Bobby and I were newlyweds, he started getting his wisdom teeth in. For whatever reason, he had never had his out either, and getting them in was pretty painful. I know this, because within a couple of days of his bothering him mine started coming in too!! Isn’t that weird??? It hurt like a mother!! We loaded up on Advil and Orajel and eventually it subsided.

Fast forward to three-and-a-half years later, when Joshua was about six months old. He got four teeth within a month, and guess what? My bottom left wisdom tooth started coming in at the same time. This time, it hurt even more than before! It just throbbed and throbbed. Now I understood why babies are so undone by teething. It flippin’ kills! Once agan I loaded up on Advil and Orajel. This time, it took a couple of weeks to really dissipate. It hurt, BAD, and I was much grumpier about my teething troubles that Joshua was about his!

Jumping another four years into the present, it is now Sophie who is teething. She has, at the ripe old age of 19 months, six teeth, but right now she is working really hard on two more. Wouldn’t you know it, about two days ago, my bottom right wisdom tooth decided it was time to come out and play. It is fairly irritating, but so far not as bad as it has been in the past. I am crossing my fingers that it doesn’t get there! Sophie and I both throwing teething tantrums will not be a pretty sight!

My last dental cleaning a few months ago was with a new dentist. She took a look at my x-rays and said, “What’s an old lady like you doing with wisdom teeth?” She knows how to charm ’em. But anyways, seeing as my kids have lots of years of getting and losing and getting new teeth ahead of them, I am gonna price having these babies out as soon as Sophie is weaned! I am way too wimpy (as well as too old) for this teething stuff!

Best find ever, blogging and more

So first of all, let me say that I am a little off my game this morning… I was laying in bed, trying to recover from a long day at King’s Island yesterday, when the door bell rang at 8:00 sharp. We had no idea who it could be, until Andy opened the door and found the carpet cleaners I had scheduled a week ago, right on time. I had completely forgotten. So we picked up everything off the floor (which is quite a feat) and threw it in the bathrooms, I grabbed the kids and we headed to Grandma’s house to get out of the way. Yeah, it’s been a great morning.

So anyway, the answers to a few questions… Christie asked what my best bargain ever was. I’m not sure this is better than the three packages of diapers that I got for $3.61, but I was pretty excited to get a great deal on a big purchase – in December, I found a Maclaren Techno stroller that’s usually $350 for about $200, with free shipping. I am slightly obsessed with strollers, so I was thrilled to be able to get a great deal on a stroller that I wouldn’t normally have bought. Ok so that’s kind of lame, but it doesn’t take much to excite me.

Jenny and I got several questions about blogging this week. Alyssa asked what we like best/least about blogging. The “best” part is easy! I love being able to blog with Jenny, I love the friends we’ve made through this site, and I love having a record of all the great (and not-so-great, and sucky) times with my kids (because I am not really good about the whole baby book thing. Like, as in Sam doesn’t even have one). What I like least is that, for right now anyway, I am not able to keep up with all the blogs that I want to read and comment on, and I feel bad for being so out of the loop! But once I return to work and have lots of computer time (what? I should be working?) I will rectify that situation.

Elizabeth asked if there are fees associated with blogging and how we got started. The only fees we pay are for our hosting service, and since we paid for that up front, it doesn’t seem like we spend any money at all, haha. But there are plenty of free services as well. Jenny and I always said we were going to write a book, but with our busy lives that was never going to happen, so I suggested we start a blog. We did a little research and planning, and kicked it off last June. We have had a great time with it!

Stay tuned for the winners of our contest to be announced, and thanks once again for making this such a great year and we hope you’ll continue to stop by Mommin’ It Up!
