Say S’mores

Mmmmmmm…. does that not look delicious? I love, love, love s’mores, and I am happy to be participating in Hershey’s Say S’mores campaign through The Motherhood.

Throughout the summer, Hershey is inviting families to share their favorite s’mores moments on their Facebook page, and enter to win a bunch of s’mores-themed prizes. The grand-prize is a Canon Rebel Camera, slate marble outdoor firebowl, $250 SnapFish gift card, roasting skewers set and all of the ingredients needed to make S’mores, including Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bars (so don’t enter, because I want to win). You can also download the Say S’mores application to participate in monthly photo contests and receive a $1 coupon good toward the purchase of any two Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bar 6-packs.

Here’s what I’m entering:

I’ll be writing another post about s’mores later in the summer – but it’s a surprise theme. I don’t even know what it is, but I’m sure it’s going to be fun! Because really, it involves Hershey bars and marshmallows. I am sold.

Head over to Facebook and share your s’mores memory!

Down on the Farm

Dear People Who Drive Down the Same Roads I Do,

Oh hi. Remember me? Probably not, but I’m the driver of one of the many cars you zoomed by in the last week or so. I imagine you didn’t see me, though, because you were in such a hurry. In fact, from the way you were driving, I must assume that you were either bleeding, in labor, or practicing for a local drag race.

I’m sure wherever you’re going is super duper important – you don’t want to be late for work, or maybe you don’t want to miss the first three minutes of The Bachelor.

But here’s the thing.

We live in rural Ohio. In case you haven’t noticed, the roads we travel down every day look pretty much like this.

Soybean Field - Mace Farm, Parke County Indiana /Illinois

And it is spring. Otherwise known as the time farmers plant shit. So it stands to reason that every once in a while we’re going to be caught behind one of these.

Heavy Equipment

See that orange triangle on the back? Unless I’m remembering the study guide from my driver’s ed class incorrectly, that indicates a slow moving vehicle.

In other words, it means “Calm your ass down.”

Now, I’m no more of a fan of driving 30 miles per hour than you are. But I am, however, a fan of being alive. And I’m a fan of my kids being alive and even you being alive. I would prefer we all remain that way. So please, please stop passing me, the nice farmers, and the other drivers who have some sense when it’s not safe to do so. By “not safe,” I mean when there’s a double yellow, a curvy road, an upcoming hill… that kind of thing.

And for the love of all that is holy, please stop passing 14 cars and the offending farm equipment all at once.

Thank you.

XOXO,
Emily

Last Round!

Hey, remember my friend E? Maybe you’ve been praying for her as she has battled Ovarian Cancer.  Maybe, like hundreds of others, you gave E five to help her financially.  Maybe you’ve now become addicted to her blog. (Because it’s really awesome and funny!  Her kids do incredible stuff to her house during naptime. Really.)

Remember my friend E?  She’s pretty unforgettable!  And so is her sweet family.

Yesterday, E started her LAST round of intensive chemo!!  A week from today, that round, and these months of intensive hair-stealing, nauseating, depression-causing chemo will be O-V-E-R.  Can I get a “WOOT WOOT”?  She’s made it through by God’s grace and her cancer numbers are looking great – down in the single digits.

One of the amazing things about E is that through her blog she has let all of us see the good days and bad days she has as she goes through this. She is real. She is sharing her fears and her failures.  She is sharing her joys and her successes.  She is sharing her hard stories.  And that’s how we learn from each other.  We don’t learn much from a “brave face”.  Thanks for being real, my friend.

Two days before she finishes this round, she will celebrate her 39th birthday.  Will you join me in praying that she is able to celebrate many, many more here on earth with her friends and family?

We know God’s plan is perfect, and we pray it includes the desire of our hearts, that E is cured of ovarian cancer.  That’s what we’re asking for. Will you ask that with us?

Thank you for praying.  Thank you for caring.  Thank you for giving!

I can’t wait to post pictures of her “chemo’s-over” party!

Love you, E!
