I am all for year-round school.

Joshua has a “fall break” of sorts yesterday and today.

And I want him to go BACK TO SCHOOL.

Because at 8:30 a.m. he’s wandering around the house with his “I’m bored” look (he doesn’t DARE say those words to me out loud), NOT playing with any of his THOUSANDS of toys, OR his sister, who by the way, would LOVE to play with him.

We need to get to the library today and check out every book you suggested yesterday!

Because right now, I am about to call my mom and figure out how she refrained from locking my brother and I in our rooms every school holiday. (Notice, Charles, I am leaving you out of this equation. Pretty sure you were not a problem.)

Oh wait, I do know. SHE GOT A JOB.  And sent us elsewhere.

Brilliant!

Babies Sleep Stylishly & Safely with aden + anais

Almost exactly a year ago, I hosted a joint baby shower for my bloggy buds Erin and Tricia. I could not have even imagined that a year later I’d be having another baby of my own!  At that baby shower, I gave Erin and Tricia both some swaddlers from aden + anais.  Although a big fan of swaddling, I had never tried aden + anais’ muslin swaddlers, but I’d heard great things about them so that’s why I got them for my friends.  Since then I’ve heard praises for aden + anais from several other moms, including my friend Maria.

And now I get to try them out on my own little guy!  I’m so excited!  These swaddlers are super-soft muslin, and are just the perfect size for a nice, snug swaddle.  And of course, the patterns are adorable!  There are SO many benefits of swaddling, and like I said, I was already a believer.  (Sophie NEEDED to be swaddled!) Now, I am glad to have another great swaddling resource to use on baby Jonah.

Another thing I like about aden + anais is that they are committed to the fight against SIDS, which swaddling is shown to help prevent.  Since 2009, they’ve been donating a portion of their profits to the CJ Foundation for SIDS with their Sleep in Safety, Grow In Style campaign.   The SSGS campaign educates parents about how to set up a safe sleeping environment that is cost-effective, comfortable for baby, and most importantly, reduces the risk of a sleep-related death.

Thanks, aden + anais for the beautiful muslin swaddles you sent for my baby boy, and for working to prevent SIDS deaths!

Recently, Sophie and I have been reading like crazy. I have FAR too many library books checked out right now. A truly UNMANAGEABLE amount. But I can’t stop reserving them and checking them out! And even though we are ready for new ones before the old ones are due, we love the old ones so we wanna keep ’em. SUCH a dilemma!

I want to get into the act with Joshua, too, but I’m not sure what to even search for to reserve for him.  Preschool books are so much easier to pick out that big kid books!  Joshua’s a really good reader, and I want to pick out some books we can enjoy together but also that he will want to read on his own.  He and Bobby have been reading through the Chronicles of Narnia for several months now, and he’s loving that.  But I need some suggestions for a good book he can really get into and manage on his own.

So, if you had an almost-7-year-old boy who reads at about a 3rd-grade level – what would you recommend I get for him from ye olde library?  I need your advice!  So get crackin’!

Oh, P.S. – nothing scary please. I have a very sensitive little guy!
