Things I Love Thursday: A Modern Eden

I like A Modern Eden
Moi with my A Modern Eden Winston the Owl shirt, which I purchased with my ooooowwwwn mooooney!

This is a review and giveaway (Stay tuned to win!!) that I’m thrilled to do because I LOVE the product and I KNOW the people behind it! The creators of A Modern Eden are the great guys at FORGE, hosts and sponsors of both our May Mom’s party and this upcoming Ultimate Mom’s Night Out July 29th. These are great people making cool stuff!  And it’s (well, I don’t know if they want me to say pretty so I’ll say) aesthetically pleasing as well!   A Modern Eden is a brand alive with cool, beautiful animal characters like Presley the Peacock, seen here in this gee-orgeous poster they sent me for review:

If Presley is a little feminine for you, perhaps you might prefer Webster the Frog:

Or Henry the Lion:

I love the Presley the Peacock poster. This is a great quality poster.  It’s not like the paper-thin glossy ones of Debbie Gibson and New Kids on the Block I had hanging in my bedroom in the 6th grade *ahem*.  The colors are vibrant and all these designs will really turn your kids’ rooms into the most whimsical zoo around.

The next genius thing A Modern Eden has in it’s bag of wares is an APP!  Yes, there’s an app for A Modern Eden!  They offered it free me to review but I ALREADY HAD IT because it’s so cool and it’s only 99 cents!  It’s called “Speak, Piggy” and it’s a great tool to entertain your kiddos and help them learn animal names and sounds at the same time.

Lastly, I did get one other cool thing to review from these guys: A Modern Eden reusable TOTE! I love reusable totes for all my drugstore shopping and this one is a lot cuter and more durable than the ones I get at the grocery. It’s also just the right size for toting around Sophie’s favorite books everywhere we go!  I chose this tree design but they have a really cool apple design here too.

They also have some super-cute animal flashcards featuring all their many animal characters which I will have to get for baby #3 for SURE! Just cause I like to look at them.

These are just the DEBUT products from A Modern Eden! I can’t wait to see what else they’re going to create for this gorgeous line.  How about some rugs and wall decals for baby’s nursery, guys?  🙂

Now the really fun part: one lucky reader will win a poster and tote of their choice from A Modern Eden!  Wheeeee!  Here’s how to enter:

1) Go to A Modern Eden and look around their site.  Leave a comment on this post telling us your fave product.

2) Follow @amoderneden on twitter and @them to say hi!  Then leave us a separate comment letting us know you did.

3) “Like” A Modern Eden’s facebook page and then leave a separate comment letting us know you do.

One winner will be chosen via random.org on Monday, July19th at 5 pm.  Good luck!

So, A Modern Eden is what I LOVE today. To see what other bloggers are diggin’ check out Things I Love Thursday at the Diaper Diaries!

Out of Luck at the Potluck

Ok so I’m trying to figure out how to write this post without seeming like a neurotic, germaphobic snob or just a complete nut job. It turns out, I can’t.

But unfortunately for all of us, that’s not going to stop me.

Here’s the thing. Tonight we went to a potluck dinner, and I’ve just got to say…

Potlucks skeeve me out.

They sound like a good idea in theory – we each bring one thing, it’s not too hard on anyone, everyone’s happy.

In practice, however, they really don’t work out that well. Take, for example, what my family ate tonight. Andy had a plate full of assorted food that included chicken & noodles, asian cole slaw salad, cubes of cheese, and shrimp cocktail. Sammy ate a piece of cheese pizza, half a peanut butter and jelly, baked beans and a chocolate chip cookie (the most normal out of any of us). Kate ate a spoonful of sloppy joe without a bun and a cupcake, and I ate a chicken leg.

Because potlucks? They’re random food made by random people.

As you may have noticed, it’s not that I have a problem eating food prepared by others (in fact, that’s how I prefer it).

It’s not even that I’m opposed to the 16 variations of green bean casserole or endless dishes of that hash brown/sour cream/potato chip concoction. I actually am a big fan of those things and many other white trash delicacies as well.

But when they’re piled on a picnic table and their origin is unknown…

Well, I eat a chicken leg.

Because, like I said, potlucks skeeve me out.

I know the box of KFC is much more likely to contain spit and/or other bodily fluids than the food lovingly prepared by moms much more domestic and talented than me, yet somehow the luke warm Original Recipe seems like the safest choice.

I don’t know what it is.

Actually, I do know what it is. It’s random food made by random people.

It weirds me out.

Now, since I ate a measly chicken leg for dinner, I’m going to go order a pizza. Because dough kneaded by pimply teenagers is MUCH MORE APPEALING than a crock pot full of meatballs.

I Went out for Bread & Milk…

…and came home with this!  I couldn’t bring myself to go all the way to Kroger just for bread & milk. So I put together a quick deal and ran down to CVS, so that paying CVS prices for bread & milk wouldn’t be so painful. 🙂

DSC02190

milk $2.49
bread $2.79 (OUCH!)
4 Suave Humectant shampoo/conditioner $6.67 total
3 Suave deodorants (for the previously mentioned manly brother of mine) $3.75 total
2 John Frieda luxurious volume $10
total = $25.70
coupons:
-$3/2 John Frieda printable
-50/2 Suave shampoo from Sunday’s Red Plum insert
= $22.20
paid with 17 ECB, total was $5.20 + $1.05 tax. So I paid $6.25 and got back 8 ECB, 3 for the Suave and 5 for the John Frieda. Not my best deal as I didn’t have tons of coupons, but since the milk and bread were $5.28 by themselves, I think I did pretty well, it’s like I just paid for the milk & bread, right!? Plus got those ECBs for next time, shampoo for my friend, and deodorant for my brother. I LOVE COUPONS! And of course, CVS. 🙂
