A Belated Thanks to Mister Rogers

A few months ago I noticed that one of our PBS stations, the one we don’t watch as much, still airs Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. I had fond memories of the show so I set our TiVo to record it and introduced it to Joshua a few days later.

He loved it immediately. I mean he looooves it. He hearts Mister Rogers! And over the past few months, I’ve fallen in love with good ol’ Fred again myself! I love the way he talks to his “television neighbor” – in this case my son. He speaks so gently and earnestly to the children who watch the show. Joshua hangs on his every word. I love the way he talks to and asks questions of his guests on the show – he speaks as if he is a child, asking questions that may seem dumb and obvious to us Smarty McSmartypants adults, but are exactly what our kids want to know. Some of the guests crack me up, they just cannot get into the act. On one episode, when Mister Rogers was visiting a film-processing plant (which prompted Joshua to ask me where the film is in my digital camera! Ha! He’s getting a history lesson!), the plant manager looked at Mister R. like he was coo-coo when he motioned to the camera and said, “I’d like you to meet my television neighbor.” I don’t know if this guy was just shy, or didn’t have kids, or had never seen the show, but he was NOT playing along. I wanted to smack him!

A couple of weeks after Joshua really started to love the show (his favorite part is of course, the Neighborhood of Make-Believe segments), I started to do a little research on Fred McFeely Rogers. I knew he had passed away fairly recently but could not quite remember when. A quick Google search told me it was February 27, 2003.

Exactly one year to the day before Joshua was born.

I got a little misty. Ok, I cried. What are the odds?

So, Mister Rogers, I know you are up in Jesus’ neighborhood now, and it is more wonderful than anything you could have imagined in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. But down here, there are those of us who are still very appreciative of you and all you did for children, and are still very privileged to be your Television Neighbor. Thank you, sir. Now please do me another solid and go take Trolley for a spin on the ol’ Streets of Gold for Joshua!

CVS Deals Matched with Competitor’s Coupons, July 27-August 2

Most CVS stores where I live in the Dayton, Ohio area take competitor’s coupons! It varies by store so ask your store manager if they take them where you shop!

Just a note: here in Dayton, we got a crappy CVS ad this week. Almost all fabulous ECB deals the rest of the country got, we DID NOT GET! Waaaahhhh!!! So. I am sad. But there are still some good Walgreens q’s that match up so I guess its not a total loss.

Ok, so now on with my post…

***UPDATE! I just returned from CVS and we DID get the Johnson & Johnson deal!!!***

Ladies (and dudes too I guess), run don’t walk to Walgreens to get their new EasySaver catalog!! It’s got lots of q’s that can be used this week!! Or you can view it and print the coupons from the Walgreens website here.

Buy $10 of Hershey’s candy, get 5 ECB.
In the Wags ES catalog there are many $1/2 coupons for these products, including the M&M’s, Hershey’s or Mars miniatures, or Skittles/Starburst bags which are all $2/$5.
Single candy bars are also included and I know I got some CRTs for those so check your CRT stash!!

Monthly deal alert!! Buy Bic Soleil Razor and 4-ct. cartridges at $6.99 each, get 5 ECB.
There is a $2 off q for these in the Wags ES catalog. If you still have any of the $4 off manu q’s from a few weeks back, this is a killer deal! If you have two manu q’s and two Wags ES q’s you can spend $3.98 and get 5 ECB! This is only good until July 31st!

Schick Intution Plus Razor, $3.99. (What a price! Get those early in the week!)
There is once again a $2 off coupon for these in the Wags ES catalog this month! If you still have any of the $2 off manu q’s on those from a few weeks ago, they will be payin’ you a penny to buy one!! YAY!

Colgate Total is on sale (When is it NOT??) for $1.50 and there is always the trusty Target printable for this for $1 off, though it does expire 7/30. There are manu q’s out for this today in the Smart Source.

Now if you don’t live in Dayton and got the GOOD CVS ad this week where you live, here are some deals for you (lucky jerks)!

Kotex maxis are $2/5.
There are $1.50 off q’s for these in the Wags ES catalog and we had 75 cents off q’s for them in last week’s Smart Source. So if you use two of each kind of q you can get two packs of maxis for 50 cents.

There is a big ECB deal on Johnson & Johnson products. Buy $20, get $10. Here are the Wags ES q’s that match up for this deal:
Benadryl is $5. There is a $1 q in the ES catalog and we had $1 ff q’s in the RedPlum from 6/22 ( I think!)
Tylenol Allergy and Tylenol Sinus is $6. There are $1 ES q’s for this also. I am sure there are manu q’s out there somewhere for this as well! You can always register for a $1 off printable good on any Tylenol here.
Efferdent is also $6, and there is a $1 off ES q for this.

The Garnier Eye Roller is $12.99, if you buy it AND Maybelline Define-A-Lash mascara (not sure on price), you get 10 ECB. There is a $5 off q for teh Garnier Eye Roller in the Wags ES q, and there were $2 off q’s for this on a tearpad at my local RiteAid. (I got a few!)

Other deals:
Crest toothpaste or Oral B toothbursh, $1.99. There are $1 off q’s for both of these in the Wags ES catalog. I think there were q’s for both of these in the P&G 7/6 insert as well.

Bayer Heart Advantage is $5.99 and there is a $3 off Wags ES q, plus there were $2.50 off q’s and $2 off q’s in recent inserts.

That’s all I see for the moment! Feel free to leave a comment if YOU find a great deal!
