2007 – A Year in Review

2007 was a big year for Mommin’ It Up! Or actually, a big six months, as we launched our site on June 17th. It’s hard to believe it’s only been a few months, because so much has happened!

Since then, we’ve had 34,495 unique visitors, and we’re so grateful to those of you who stumbled on our site and then decided to come back. It’s so fun to have “regulars!” We’ve posted 186 times and our readers have left 1,560 comments. The nice spammers have left us 1,747 obnoxious comments as well!

A huge thank you to all of you who make this so much fun!

And in case you’ve missed anything, here are a few highlights from this year:

In June , Jenny wrote the first of her gross blogs, “Spit, Splatter, Splatter”, and regaled us with the tale of worshipping at The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Perpetual Ponytail. I posted a list of “Things you should and should not do during pregnancy” (perhaps I should review that now) and reviewed the Bible of parenting books, Baby 411.

In July, Jenny won Karen’s “messiest post” contest with “When Motherhood Meets HAZMAT” and told us more about the drama that was potty-training Joshua. I traumatized Kate by getting my “earbrows” waxed and recommended everyone read “Mother Shock” by Andrea Buchanan.

August brought Jenny’s worst injury of the year and a disgusting public restroom experience. I expressed my desire for a drive-thru EVERYTHING. August also brought a snake to my house!

September was a big month for us! One of the most momentous occasion was Jenny’s thirtieth birthday (dang she is OLD) and a big contest to go with it. She also exposed her neurotic side when she told us about the pressure she puts on herself to make her kids’ birthday cakes. Kate started preschool and I announced my pregnancy.

In October, Jenny displayed the many facets of her personality with “I Only Bend at the Waist” and tried to convince us that she’s a bad mother. I listed the ways Google searches have led readers to us and complained once again about pregnancy.

In November, Jenny read me the riot act about not finding out the sex of my unborn baby and started to question her level of commitment to making Sophia’s first birthday cake. I wrote about my parenting fact-finding obsession about decorating the Christmas tree with a three year old.

And finally, in December, Jenny revealed her obsession with CVS deals, in a number of posts. She also told us about Joshua’s foray into (dirty) phonics. I wrote about Kate’s nearly-disasterous trick at a basketball game and asked those of you who have gone before us what exactly we’re in for with having another baby.

All in all, it’s been a great year, and creating this blog has been a big part of it. Thank you all so much for reading, and we hope you’ll stay tuned in 2008!!

A Toddler has Hijacked my Blog!

Hi everyone this is Sophia Diane, also known as Sophie, SoSo, Sophie Mophie, Soph, and Moph. Hannah, whose mommy Jill writes the Diaper Diaries, tagged me to tell you 8 things about myself. So here goes!

1. I am 13.5 months old and have NO teeth. Although my top front two are really close, so who knows, maybe I’ll pop ’em through this week. In the meantime, my teeth and I are having fun keeping Mommy guessing.

2. My favorite movie is Moe and the Big Exit from Veggie Tales. When it is on I will stare at the TV enraptured for the whole hour! Not that my mom lets me watch TV or anything. I mean, as I mentioned, I am only 13.5 months old. That’s crazy! Ahem….

3. I love to nurse and even though my Mommy is trying to wean me, I think I will nurse until at least 1st grade.

4. I love to play with my hair, especially when I am sleepy.

5. I hate sitting in a shopping cart. I would much rather stand in the seat part, backwards, especially if my brother is in the big part of the cart. I have yet to meet a cart seat belt I couldn’t get past!

6. My mommy may have told you that I am training to be an Olympic diver or gymnast. Well, last week I dove into the tub when there was NO water in it. It wasn’t as much fun as when there was water.

7. When I was seven months old, I did a photo shoot for the Evenflo Snugli. I was fairly sure I was gonna be famous, but we have yet to see the pictures appear on anything. Still one day I am hoping to see my mug on the Snugli box!

8. I hate laying still to have my diaper changed or my clothes put on! I don’t know why my mommy trys to make me do tha tall the time. It is a major buzzkill!

Well now I am supposed to tag some friends, so I am going to tag my BIRTHDAY BUDDY Little Man at Lattes and Life. We were born the EXACT same day isn’t that cool?? And also I am tagging Becca whose Mommy is Deb Mom of 3 Girls, cause I wanna hear about life with sisters!

Thanks for reading! I am going to go do one of my favorite things ever…WRECK my brother’s train track! Mu-ha-ha-ha (evil toddler laugh)!

My Christmas Wish Came TRUE!

Well, thanks to my BFF Luanne, I DID get a CVS gift card for Christmas! WOOHOO!! Even though there weren’t many great deals this week at CVS, I DID manage to “add” to my gift card’s value by spending just 81 cents on it and getting back 4 ECBs! I got two Palmolive dish soaps, a 60-count Tums Smoothies, a bottle of Children’s Motrin, and a bottle of Tylenol PM. I used a CVS $5/$15 coupon, a CVS $2/$10 coupon, two $5 off Tylenol coupons (Motrin is a Tylenol product), two 40 cent off Palmolive coupons, a $1 Tums CVS coupon (found in the CVS diabetes book), and a 75-cent -off Tums coupon I got with my last purchase of Tums. (My hubby uses Tums A LOT). As I mentioned, I paid 81 cents on my gift card and got back 4 ECBs. So now, instead of a $25 gift card, I have a total of $28.18 in gift card plus ECBs! Luanne challenged me to turn my $25 into $100 and I am going to try and meet that challenge!

I also got a couple of good deals at Target yesterday, thanks to the great coupons on the Target Coupon Generator. Using three of the $3 off Huggies coupons and one of the $1 Pepsi coupons, I got 6 travel-size Huggies wipes, one 12-pack of Mountain Dew (YUMMY!), one bottle of Hershey’s syrup (can you tell I love sugar?) and a box of fruit snacks for a GRAND total of $1.84! The cashier was kind of like. “Huh?” So I grabbed my stash and booked it out of there!

I hope you all got some great deals this week! For more Super Savings, check out Money Saving Mom!
