Nothing like thirfty coffee drinkin’

Well hello again, friends! I went SHOPPING again! I am doing so good with keeping up with my goal to drugstore whore every week.  This week I was especially excited to get a great deal at CVS on my FAVORITE coffee, Gevalia. Here’s how it shook out:

I bought:

3 bags of Gevalia, $5.99 each = $17.97

2 Children’s Advil (one liquid, one chewables) $4.99 each =$9.98

CVS pain pads $5.89 (because I am old, and my back hurts, and they were out of my favorite kind, the Ben-Gay brand. And this is already a purchase I am regretting. They suck.)

total = $33.84

coupons I used:

-$4.99 BOGO Advil printable from Facebook

-$1 Advil printable from I can’t remember where

-$4.50 three $1.50 off Gevalia coupons (two printable from Facebook and one from a recent insert)

total =$23.35 + tax

I got back 9 ECBs (5 for the Gevalia and 4 for the Advil) plus I had a 75 cent ibotta app coupon for the chewable Advil as well. So my net expense was $13.60 for all that wheeee!

It would’ve been much better if I’d still had my 6 ECB from last week, but I had to spend that earlier in the week on – you guessed it – Ben-Gay pain patches for my BACK! I can’t wait til this is healed up! They are so expensive but they are about the only thing that helps.

So, those are MY deals – I was super-stoked about the Advil because it came out more than free (and I am looking forward to using the chewables with the big kids) and the coffee came out to just $2.82 per bag ($4.50 is my “will-buy” price for Gevalia. Woot!!)!

What did you get at the store this week?

Old As the Hills

You know, Emily likes to joke about me being older than she is, and the fact is, well…I’ll always be older. (Even though she has the sense of humor of an octogenarian.) But lately, I’ve been feeling my age…and then some.

Let me tell ya, 2013 has not been my year so far. Despite my efforts to be healthi-ER (which are actually going well, I’m being a pretty good girl), I’ve had some setbacks. My gall bladder that they couldn’t find anything wrong with last spring has been attacking me again the last couple of weeks. It’s been fairly painful and very stressful. Then, two weeks ago my lower back started hurting for no apparent reason. In the past when I’ve had backaches they’ve usually resolved themselves after a few days of popping Aleve and wearing Icy Hot patches, but not this time. The pain and persistence began causing me some significant anxiety, and I couldn’t get in to see my doctor for over a week, so yesterday I finally broke down and called a chiropractor.

I’m kind of scared of chiropractors, even though most people I know who go to them loooove them. But the thought of having my “back cracked” or ANYTHING cracked for that matter, scared me to death.

But I went, because I. Was. Desperate.

And actually, I think it helped! I’m going back Saturday, despite the fact that my body made horrible noises I doubt it was meant to make and I may have screamed several times a little.

But I have to say the most painful part of the chiropractic experience (which really didn’t hurt, so don’t freak out) was the the doctor himself was OBVIOUSLY younger than me. Either that, or he drinks from the fountain o’ youth.

Sigh. How am I so old that there are medical professionals that are much younger than I am?

My Tour de Old was topped off last night by a 9pm victory lap in my glider rocker with a heating pad on my back. I did said victory lap in my PJs and fuzzy heart bathrobe (I heart my fuzzy heart bathrobe. I’d like to leave it on all winter, eat about 12 pounds of gluten-free onion rings to get nice and plump, and then hibernate for 2 months like those geniuses, BEARS do. But I digress.).

Look Grandma! THREE heat settings!

So that’s my story thus far. 2013 is the Year of the Geezer. Can’t wait to see what Geriatric Adventures I’m in for at my Friday doctor’s appointment!

See Jenny Shop! Week of 1/20/13

Well, this week wasn’t TOO exciting at the drugstores, but I kept my resolve to get out there and find what I could to keep my deals going. Happily, Kroger is having a big mega-event and had a lot of items I needed on sale so THAT was fun at least! Here’s what I got this week!

CVS:

This week CVS had a deal on Colgate-Palmolive products – buy $12, get back 6 extra care bucks. Some of the items were $2.99 instead of $3, but I was pretty sure CVS wouldn’t make me spend those extra 2 pennies to get the ECBs and I was correct! Here’s how it worked out:

Colgate Optic White toothpaste $2.99

Colgate Optic White rinse $3.00

SpeedStick deodorant $2.99

SoftSoap body wash $3.00

total = $11.98

coupons:

-$1 SpeedStick deodorant coupon from SmartSource insert

-$.75 SoftSoap coupon from SmartSource insert

-$1 Colgate Optic White rinse from SmartSource insert

-$.75 Colgate Optic White toothpaste from SmartSource insert

= $8.48 and I got back 6 ECBs plus I used my ibotta coupon app and got $1.25 for Colgate Optic White rinse and $1.25  for the Colgate Optic White toothpaste deposited in my PayPal account. So, that’s a grand total of a profit of 2 cents before tax. 🙂 YAY!

Next up, I hit the Kroger Mega-Event. This is a buy 10 items, get $5 off promotion. I bought 20 items total but my best deal was on Capri Sun Roaring Waters, which my kids take in their lunches to school.

thirsty?

Capri Suns were $2.50, but you got an additional 50 cents off each for buying 10 sale items total. I had two coupons for buy 3, get one free for Capri Sun. I also had an ibotta app coupon for $1.00 off Capri Sun Roaring Waters. Sooo I bought 8, at $2.50 each. Kroger knocked the price down to $2 each since I bought 10 total items.  Here’s how it worked out.

8 Capri Sun at $2 each = $16

-$5.00 from my two free (took off the original price of $2.50)

-$1.00 from my ibotta coupon

=$10 for 8 Capri Sun.

Wee-hoo! I was pretty pleased with that price!

Other items I got a good price on w/ the Mega-Event and coupons include Blue Diamond Almond milk and BirdsEye steamfresh veggies.

The Mega-Event should be running next week, too, so there’s still time to save!

And you gotta get the ibotta app! I am saving SO much with it. $5 from last night’s trip alone! If you sign up through my link here, I’ll get a dollar and you’ll get my everlasting gratitude.

Happy shopping! What did YOU get this week?
