He’s a Playa

Can I just tell you how much I love my baby boy? We are having a great time together now that the big kids are in school and we’re getting some face time. Jonah loves to play. Although he plays much better by himself that my other two kids did, he still just wants Mommy to play with him in the morning.  So in the morning, we play. We stack blocks and pegs. We read. We sing lots of songs.  He does an adorable dance to the ABC song, and awesome motions to “Wheels on the Bus” and “If you’re happy and you know it”.  It is a-freaking-dorable, and I love it!  He is such a good player. He plays hard, and he has fun! And of course, leaves a mess in his wake.

(Have you updated your iPhone to iOS 6 yet? Cool panoramic feature on the camera!)

This is really only a small Jonah mess.  See his puzzles? They are still neatly stacked up! Usually he has about 5 or 6 out with pieces everywhere by the end of the day.

Jonah hasn’t been as quick to talk as Joshua and Sophie were, so I’ve been a little nervous about that.  But since the big kids have gone back to school, he is adding words really quickly. Just this week his new words are blue, green, orange and even Halloween! It’s so fun and exciting for me to report these new developments every day. He never stops making me laugh and run for my phone to take a picture or video.

I am super in love with my baby Jonah.  I am loving my one-on-one time with him! I can’t wait to see what he does next, each day, each moment.  It’s such a gift.

Under my dead body

Am I the only person left in America who still has a home phone? And is under the age of 70? Granted, mine is cordless and not even remotely similiar to this old rotary one, but it still seems archaic in a lot of ways. Almost none of my friends have  home phones anymore, except for Cortney, an old soul like me, who just GOT one after not having one for forever.

I love my home phone. Well, not when it rings. I hate it when it rings. Because really it’s only telemarketers (The “Do not call” list? Should be called the “does not work” list!) or campaigners that call it and it’s annoying.  BUT I love the security it provides.  Like…if I didn’t have a home phone, how would I ever call my cell phone in order to find it when I’ve misplaced it? My faithful home phone is there when I need it. It’s always there, on the charger, with its multiple handsets, ready to be called into active duty when my cell phone battery dies.  Or, let’s say Joshua needs to call 9-1-1 because I’ve fallen down the basement steps and my cell phone is stuck under my dead body?  Good thing we have a HOME PHONE, one that he doesn’t have to pry from under his mother’s girth, unlock or find the keypad on to operate!

HOME! PHONE! FTW!

Last week, Joshua wanted to call his BFF and talk about Pokemon cards. Do you think he’s gonna be doing that with my iPhone? UM, no. Here’s the home phone, buddy! You and Pikachu have a blast!

I love my home phone. I don’t love paying for it but I sure do enjoy it’s security blanket-esque qualities. What say you? Are you an “E.T. Home Phone” fan like me, or did you kick yours to the curb long ago? Why or why not?

Who are you and what have you done with Jenny?

I really do not know WHAT has come over me, but when I was talking with my team from work about making Halloween costumes from some of our clients’ products, I was like, “You know, I think I could do a few of those.”

As you know if you’ve read this blog for awhile, I have not a crafty bone in my body. Emily’s the more crafty cousin and has made Kate’s costumes in the past. Anna, the third SuperCousin, practically LIVES at Hobby Lobby, but I am allergic to it.  As a matter of fact, I recently went to Hobby Lobby to look for magnets for Sophie’s hair bow board (which I guess I also crafted, but not really) and I pretty much had a panic attack. I walked out with a sweaty brow, a racing heartbeat, and empty hands. Have you been in there? THAT PLACE is TERRIFYING! Seriously!! I hope I never have to go in there again.

But anyhoo, after a trip to the DOLLAR TREE (much more my speed), I realized I could easily accessorize some Girls Crochet Headands products and make Sophie a couple of costume options for Halloween.

And I FREAKING DID IT! Amazeballs, right??

Here is Sophie as a clown:

And here she is as an Angry Bird (which is the one she chose to actually wear for trick-or-treat):

Girls Crochet Headbands liked my efforts so much they dedicated two blog posts to the tutorials. I hope you’ll check them out; the clown one is here and the Angry Bird is here, or you can find them both on our Happy Halloween Pinterest board.

And to give credit where credit is due, Cortney made the Angry Birds mask; it was left over from her son’s birthday party, but I *do* think I could’ve done it myself.

Anycrap, after I finished these I proudly texted photos of them to Emily and Cortney, and wouldn’t you know, they both had the SAME reaction!

O she of little faith!

Clearly, I can’t get no respect!  And also, the real me *may* have been abducted by aliens and replaced with this costume-crafting “fun mom”! But really, I surprised myself with these. They were just TOO easy. If I can do it, anyone can, fer the realz. So, head on over to the links above and check out the tutorials!

Now I just have to get Joshua’s costume figured out. He is definitely NOT wearing a tutu! Are your kids obsessed with Halloween yet?  What are they planning to be for trick-or-treat?
