The Kankles are a-comin’

Thursday I had my 24-week checkup at my OB, which fortunately was very uneventful.  My doc and I talked more about the upcoming mom’s sale she sells stuff at and I go to sometimes (which I didn’t go to, because fortunately between Emily’s Sammy and Cortney’s two boys, Jonah is going to be set for life with clothes!) than we did about my pregnancy.

I did however, have a moment with the nurse when she was taking my blood pressure and asking me the routine questions.

“Any swelling?” she queried.

“Not yet!” I shot back cheerfully.

She laughed. “Not yet?

“Oh, I’m sure it’s coming soon,” I responded.

I shouldn’t have said that!  I went home and worked on cleaning my dining room (let’s just say that since our kitchen has been re-done, I am collecting kitchen stuff from all over the house.  I don’t know how it got so spread out!) and by the end of the day, I could feel my feet swelling.  Then Friday, I worked like a DOG cleaning out Sophie’s room and closet (*cough* eightbagstoGoodwill *cough*) which literally took me all day and some help from Bobby when he got home.  Once again I could feel my feet and ankles getting bigger.  They still didn’t look too bad, but I could tell.

When I was pregnant with Joshua, my blood pressure went crazy-high the day after he was due, causing me to have to be induced.  After I had him, my blood pressure stayed high and my feet became roughly the size of the Elephant Man’s.  I will never forget my mother looking at me as I sat at home with my newborn, just 4 or 5 days old, and saying in all seriousness, “I’m really worried about your feet.”  They were HUGE.

With Sophie, my blood pressure played nice and my swelling wasn’t as bad, although I did definitely get some pudgy feet.  Also during my pregnancy with her, I could feel my fingers and toes turning into sausages when I would get stressed.  So I learned when I needed to stop and put my feet up, which helped.

Now that flip-flop season is about over, I am thankful to have some comfy cute Crocs wrapped Mary Jane flats to put my feet in when they DO start getting ginormous.  (I got them when we did the Back 2 School Bash giveaway and they are AWESOME!) Because Kankle Time approacheth, ladies, and it ain’t gonna be pretty!

How about you?  Did you survive your pregnancy kankle-free or did you blow up like a balloon?

Holy Profit at Rite Aid, Batman! Er, sort of.

Ok, so I was super-jazzed after looking at the Rite Aid ad and reading some other great coupon blogs & seeing this week’s deals!  We went to church last night so this morning I was at Rite Aid when it opened at 9.  Not because I have totally lost my mind, but because I have INSOMNIA and I’d been up since 5:15 & had already gotten my shopping plan together!  Despite my best planning, all did not totally go as planned, as I’ll explain. Here’s what I got:

DSC02240

Two Tylenol Precise pain patches $10

Two Reach Total Care toothbrushes, $2.99 each = $5.98

Listerine PocketPaks $2.99

Listerine Total Care $4.99 ($4.49 for me with 10% wellness + discount)

Johnson’s baby shampoo $3.99

Johnson’s baby lotion $3.99

Playtex Gentle Glide tampons $4 (you’re welcome, Sarah!)

total = $35.44

Coupons:

-$5/$25 Rite Aid video values printable

-$5/2 Tylenol Precise from today’s inserts

-$2.99 B1G1 Free Reach from insert awhile back

-$1 Any Reach toothbrush printable

-$1 Johnson’s shampoo printable

-$1 Listerine Rite Aid video values printable from August

-$1 Listerine Rite Aid video values printable from September

-$2 +UP Rewards from last week

Total = $9.95 + $1.71 in tax. I paid $11.66 cash and got back 13 +UP Rewards!! ( 2 each for the Johnson’s baby, 2 each for the Reach, 2 for the Pocket Paks, 3 for the Playtex). Pretty good, right??  Well, normally I would be thrilled with this transaction BUT there was an extra +UP Reward  – $10 for buying $30 of select Johnson & Johnson products – that didn’t print!!  I didn’t realize it wasn’t there til I was on my way home, and I didn’t want to drive back and annoy the cashier and manager, so I emailed customer service when I got home and I am waiting to hear back!  I know I bought the right items and spent enough, so I am hoping they will get me my extra $10 somehow!

Hopefully if it all works out I will come away with $11.34 profit on this one!  Plus, the Listerine & Pocket Paks, and toothbrushes all count toward the Oral Care rebate I was working on – so that’s more profit as well!

Did anyone else try the Johnson & Johnson deal and get the $10 +UP Reward??  I hope it worked for you.  I’ll let you know how it turns out.  And hey, Rite Aid! I want my $10!  😉

Jenny’s Kitchen Transformation – BIG REVEAL!

So back in late July, Emily and I revealed to you that we were getting new kitchen counter tops and cabinets from Granite Transformations (and we asked for your help in choosing what colors we should get!)  Then, in August, we revealed to you what colors we had chosen.  And now, after mercilessly teasing you for days on Facebook and Twitter, it’s time for ME to reveal my finished kitchen to you!!  Next week it will be Emily’s turn – hers is still in progress.  Let’s first take a walk down memory lane so I can show you what my horrifically ugly kitchen looked like (it was also really messy in these pictures!)

And here, my friends, is my new, beautiful, gorgeous, DREAMY, transformed kitchen from Granite Transformations!!

(I just have to say that this here used to be the 4 janky, messed-up drawers you saw pictured above. Now it is a drawer with a cabinet door with two roll-outs inside the cabinet. I LOVE IT!)

Blanco sink!
My beautiful new Blanco sink and faucet. THANK YOU BLANCO for partnering with Granite Transformations on this!

(OMG BFF check out the CROWN MOLDING UP ON TOP!!)

Need I ask “What do you think?”  Isn’t is AMAZING??

I seriously teared up when it was all done.  I just cannot believe how gorgeous it is!  And it took less than 4 days – 3 days for the cabinets, and actually just about 3 hours for the counters.  And at no time was my kitchen un-usable, I always had plumbing and could use the dishwasher and everything.  The men from Granite Transformations did a fast, quality, phenomenal job and I could not be happier!  And they were SO NICE and respectful – every last person that was in my home.

Now Bobby and I just have to paint – I think I’ve got a color picked out – but OF COURSE I will post pictures when it’s done!  The white walls are a little too much white, but we don’t want something real dark in our small kitchen.

I am so excited, I love my counter tops so much I wish I could SLEEP on them!! The material is heat-resistant up to 560 degrees and stain resistant and so durable you could even use it as a cutting board (although it would dull your knives it’s so hard!)

I cannot express how THRILLED I am with Granite Transformations’ cabinet refacing (they just took what was there and made it NOT CRAPPY! How amazing is that????) and counter tops.  If you are looking to upgrade your kitchen, this is the way to go!  No ripping out your appliances, walls, counters, or cabinets – just a beautiful new kitchen in a very short time.

Thank you so much Granite Transformations!  I will sing your praises for years to come!

(So, really, tell me – whaddya THINK!??!!?)

Disclosure: I have said this before in previous posts, but I’ll say it again!  Granite Transformations is providing Emily and I with new sinks and counter tops for free, and Emily and I got a great discount on the cabinets, which we paid for ourselves with our own money. 🙂
