Babies’ Breath

I love morning snuggle time with my babies.  Even though they are now much bigger than babies and in our full-size bed, snuggle time is *very* cozy.  And if it’s a weekend and all four of us are in the bed at the same time, it gets a *wee bit* uncomfortable.  I still love it!  I love those tiny, warm-as-toast, sleepy bodies smushed up next to mine. I love little arms and legs flung over mine.  I love little hands lovingly patting my cheek.

But there is one thing I don’t love about our morning snuggles.

Both of my children’s RAGING, vile morning breath.

I know, we all have it.  But really?  Cute, cuddly, warm-as-toast, fresh-from-the-bed little kiddos just shouldn’t.

But mine do.  Neither of them will go anywhere near mint toothpaste, and their favorite Colgate Watermelon, while keeping their teeth lovely and shiny, is NOT doing much for the stankous smell that comes out when they press their little faces close to mine in the mornings!

The warm morning snuggles are still worth it of course…but if we want to keep it up, I might soon be needing a Mommy Morning Gas Mask!

What’s your favorite (or least favorite) thing about morning snuggles with your kids?

  1. Molly likes to play pretend sleep when I go in to wake her up. She’ll be awake playing with her toys and I can hear her from the hallway, but as soon as I open the door she closes her eyes extra tight. She has this goofy grin on her scrunched up face, like she’s getting away with something.

  2. I love waking our little guy up each morning. More times than not, he wakes with a smile and snuggles in real close while we softly discuss what the day holds for us.

We too have the breath issue – AKA: DRAGON breath and that it is! EY!

  3. Well, mine are 25 and 22, so morning suggles would be a tad creepy!

But I miss the days when they’d come and climb into the bed on a Saturday morning and wake me UP. I don’t remember dragon breath from either of them…but since Mommy was one time a dental assistant, I’m sure she had some thing to do with that…Mints anyone?

    UP

  4. *big sigh of relief* I thought my kid was mutated or something! He’s had awful morning breath since…he began eating real food (about 7 months). He’s only 14 months now!! I mean, he’s adorable and I love him to pieces, but really?! I thought that nasty dragon stuff didn’t start until at least 8 or 9.

Anyways, Brendon is always in the snuggle “hold-me-tight” mood in the mornings. at least, just until he sees the kitchen (FOOD!)

  5. My 3 year old doesn’r like to snuggle anymore in the morning. He wants to get straight to playing with his toys. I’ll even invite him in our room to snuggle, but he says “No”. Then there’s my 8 month old. He likes to snuggle a lot more but when he wakes up in the morning he’s only interested in eating/nursing. So he bites me all over my face looking for food and loves to pull my hair and scratch at me. It’s cute, but I can only take the abuse for a few minutes. We get our snuggle time a little later in the morning when he’s ready for a nap.

  6. funny story.. when my son was about 3, he all of a sudden had this smelly breath. i mean it was BBAAADDD.. like warm milk and dirty socks. i thought it was his teeth, checked in there, all was well. this went on for about two weeks and my poor baby i took him to the dr to get him checked out. the dr looked around his mouth, pressed on his tummy, looked in his ears, then his nose.. uh oh whats that she says? there is somethign blocking his nasal passage. my 4 yr old daughter was with us and we all just freeze. she lays him down and gets tweezers and pulls out a COCOA PUFF. the entire room immediately smelled up and made us gag.. POOR THING…. he wont eat them to this day!

  7. My 4 year old also has terrible breath. And she used minty toothpaste. I brush all over her mouth and even her tongue. Nothing seems to help. So when we cuddle in the morning I get my face at just the right angle to breath in just a little less. I love cuddles and would do anything to make them work. Glad to hear it isn’t just my kids!!!
