Rice Krispies Holiday Challenge and $100 Giveaway!

Around the 4th of July, I had the fun privilege of being involved in a recipe challenge with Rice Krispies and the Motherhood.com.   It was really fun, so when Rice Krispies asked me to participate in their end-of-the-year holiday recipe challenge, I was game!  Especially since the campaign also comes with a $100 Visa gift card giveaway to one lucky reader!

Our challenge this time around was to create a holiday Rice Krispies Treats show-stopper recipe.  Since I am not the most domestic girl in the world, the “show-stopper” part made me a little nervous.  But I am happy to say I came up with a simple recipe that tastes and looks AWESOME!  My favorite flavor of the season is peppermint, and I thought Holiday Peppermint Rice Krispies Treats would be fabulous!  So I got some cookie cutters, some candy canes, and some Rice Krispies and got creative!   Here’s what I came up with:

mmmmm

Holiday Peppermint Rice Krispies Treats
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons butter
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
2/3 cup crushed candy canes (about 8-10 regular-size candy canes)
10 oz marshmallows
1 can white frosting

Directions:
Melt butter in saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until totally melted. In large mixing bowl, layer marshmallow-butter mixture and Rice Krispies cereal (layering makes it easier to mix.) Stir together until thoroughly mixed. Place candy canes in a resealable plastic bag and use a rolling pin to crush them into a chunky powder. Thoroughly mix 1/3 cup of crushed candy canes into bowl.

With wax paper, press mixture evenly into 13x9x2-inch pan coated with cooking spray or margarine. Cool, then use your favorite cookie cutters to cut into holiday shapes. Decorate with frosting as desired and sprinkle remaining 1/3 cup crushed candy canes on top for decoration.

Enjoy!

Not too toot my own horn, but these turned out AWESOME! They taste terrific and look great too! I took them to a church dinner and they were a big hit!

  1. Cocoa Rice Crispy treats!! YUMM!!

My sister always helps me with my children’s birthday cakes. She always covers rice crispy treats with fondant to make different characters. I don’t know what we’d do without them!! 🙂

  2. I’ve tried them a couple of different ways, but I find the the good old fashioned plain way is the best. I would eat them everyday if I could! 🙂

  3. My favorite way to eat them is with chocolate drizzled over the top. Thanks for the amazing giveaway 🙂

  4. I like my Rice Krispie Treats plain, but my husband always insists that I put raisins in them like his mother does. 🙂

    Merry Christmas!!

  5. Ohh that’s a great idea! Crushed peppermint on frosty rice crispy treats – I haven’t done it any other way but tradition.

  6. We love homemade rice krispies, especially when they are warm!!!! I did try your recipe and they treats were gone in an hour! I then had calls from my son’s school and friends of mine to give them the recipe!!! It was so cool!

  7. Ooooh, good idea putting peppermint in there! I usually like a good old traditional rice krispy treat, but I would definitely try the peppermint!

  8. I’m pretty partial to just plain Rice Krispy treats without anything added to them. If I did have to choose one favorite addition it would be peanut butter.

  9. Wow!! These look amazing!!! Very cute!
I love my rice krispies just the regular plain way!! (but I might have to try these!!!!)

  10. I cut them out with cookie cutters and put them on a popsicle stick! Kids love em and stay relatively unsticky

  11. I like my Rice Krispies Treats the old fashion way, maybe a dusting of holiday sugar to add a little something extra … but seeing your idea I think I will try a few red hots to my heart shaped Valentines Rice Krispies Treats I make each year for my daughters class party!

  12. I like Rice Krispies treats plain or about any other way you can make it. Chocolate always helps any recipe.

  13. My first thought was that I like mine plain – just the regular old fashioned rice krispie treets. However, the pictures have changed my mine. They look really good. I wonder how a little chocolate on top would taste?

  14. those look really good!! I am def going to try your recipe… i’ve only had the regular treats and rice crispie treats dipped in chocolate…

  15. I always like the rice krispy treats that other people make – because mine never turn out!!! I don’t know what it is, but – oh well!

  16. I love my rice krispy treats the old fashioned way. but those look great. I bet they would be awesome with peppermint bark instead of candy canes! mmmm

  17. I like mine with peanut butter in them! I love the things they use Rice Krispy treats for on Cake Boss! 😉

  18. I make them all the time for my Husband. I mix half Rice Krispies and half Cocoa Krisipies together to make them!
