Don’t make us do it.

Jenny and I have a long-standing Halloween tradition of taking our kids trick or treating together. It’s fantastic and one of our favorite nights of the year.

However.

Tonight? I DON’T WANNA.

I am waving the Fun Mom Surrender Flag.

I know that there is so much terrible weather stuff going on in this country that I shouldn’t complain, but for realz – it is COLD and WET. I tried to start a Facebook campaign to get trick or treating postponed until this weekend, when it’ll be 50 and sunny, but to no avail.

It’s going to be awful! The kids aren’t even going to have any fun! To quote Jenny’s husband, they’re going to be dressed up as Alaskan school children! They could catch cold! Jenny’s makeup could get messed up!

The potential for disaster is limitless. Something must be done.

I wonder if we could talk our kids into a Halloween Easter Egg Hunt instead. Or maybe busting a pinata. Or, hell, I will pour sugar straight down their throats. JUST DON’T MAKE ME GO OUT THERE!!!!!

  1. I say we pay each child $5 to stay in and eat the candy that we bought to give out to trick-or-treaters. HECK, we could even take them to Target and let them each spend it right then & there if it’ll keep us off the mean, COLD, WET STREETS OF ICELAND, Ohio!

  2. Em, you are back on track. I have been puzzled by your running in hot weather with sweat-soaked clothing. Not a Burns trait, but hating to be out in the cold rain….that’s our girl!

  3. We did the pumpkin patch/corn maze/hayride thing last weekend then we hit Octoberfest downtown where we live. They passed out candy and such to the kids up and down both sides of the street. I consider that Halloween! We will NOT be going out tomorrow night. It’s just too cold and too dangerous and the boys really don’t mind. They would rather sit home and watch the flashing strobe light in their Jack O Lantern and play X-Box.

  4. I am with you, sister. Maybe we could try “trick or treat at home”? Hide candy in each room of the house, and make a fun game out of it! I know they won’t go for it, but worth a shot …

  5. I think I saw that Beavercreek moved theirs – just tell them it got moved to a different date AND location! Hunter’s Ridge is awesome for Trick – or -Treat!

  6. We are going out tonight, as NC is not so so rainy and damp. Why not take them to another neighborhood that did move theirs to the weekend, as Elizabeth B suggests? We certainly drive to south Greenville so we can get out of the ghetto to trick or treat!

  7. I am so happy that frankenstorm hit Cleveland area so hard that Lake County has changed Trick or Treaking until Sunday. I was going to have my kids trick or treak room to room and jus give them all the candy I had to hand out 🙂

  8. I’m curious why your trick-or-treating was scheduled for the 30th to start with? I know they do that sometimes when Halloween lands on a Sunday, but what’s wrong with Wednesday? And, what was the decision… did you go?
