And the Ultrasound Says…

Yesterday at 9:30 I had my 20-week ultrasound.  I was sooo nervous beforehand for two reasons: 1) I know people who have gone into their ultrasound and come back out with devastating, unexpected news, and 2) I REALLY wanted to know the gender, as you all know, and part of me was very nervous that baby wouldn’t show the goods. Then Emily would have a good revengeful laugh, and we really can’t have that, now can we??

Happily, my fears on both counts were unfounded!  Our baby is healthy and measuring perfectly with my due date, and is not very modest, no NOT AT ALL!  It didn’t take the ultrasound tech more than a second to say, “IT’S A BOY!”

Leg, Leg, NOT A LEG

She took a couple measurements of his head first and then asked if we wanted to know the gender, so we didn’t have to wait long. I must say, Bobby and I were BOTH shocked! We laughed out loud. This baby had us tricked! We were both leaning heavily towards girl, and when she said BOY, and I could SEE that it was true, I realized how much I REALLY thought I was having a girl.

But I’m not!  Bobby, me, and 60% of you were wrong! We are having a beautiful, baby boy!  And I couldn’t be more thrilled or thankful to God.  We are all super-excited!  Especially big brother Joshua who was reallllly holding out for a boy (I guess Sophie’s just not cutting it for him?)

Of course, we had the big NAME discussion the day before, because I cannot stand for my babies not to be named the second after I know whether they have a pee-pee or a hoo-hoo.

But I think I’ll save his name story for another post.  After all, I want to keep you coming back to read, don’t I? {Insert diabolical laugh!}

  1. We’re finding out if this baby (our first) is a boy or girl in about… 4 hours. Congrats on your Boy news! We’re both leaning toward a ‘Girl’ feeling, but a boy might surprise us, too!

  2. Obviously I need to attend a how to read an ultra-sound class. Because the picture above just looks like a big glob of globbiness! LOL

    **This girl’s never had kids!!**

  3. Congrats! How exciting!! We are having a boy as well- I said I would keep having babies until I got my boy, so I think the stars don’t want me reproducing too much!! haha!

  4. Just wanted to congratulate you & your family on finding out your new baby boy is healthy. May God Bless him & the rest of the family.

  5. Congratulations, Jenny & family. I would use an exclamation mark, but my keyboard is messed up. So happy for you and the news of the new little boy to be arriving. My little guy is almost nine and not so little anymore…well, he’s skin and bones, but he is looking more and more like a big boy. I saw a picture of him as a baby in my friend’s wedding album yesterday and had to keep from tearing up. They grow up so fast. I am thrilled for you to be able to enjoy the baby stage again. My sister just announced she is expecting, so this hormonal mama – meaning me – can get her baby fix next spring.

  6. In case anyone wanted to know:

    U/S reading class: From the top of the U/S in the middle of the frame, you notice several different gray layers. THese are Jenny’s belly and the uterus. Then there is a noticeably darker layer/pocket, that’s some amniotic fluid. Then you see a gray structure with a white line in the center that sort of become a bigger white triangle, that’s the baby femur. Then, another layer of fluid, then another leg. If you track the legs back up to wear they would join (towards the left side of the image), well then there are BOY PARTS! Imagine the baby is sitting on a glass coffee table and you are looking up from the bottom of it.

    Hope that was helpful!

    And congrats again!

  7. Update: I was surprised by a boy on Friday, too! Though, it shouldn’t have been a surprise, since there are NO girls in DH’s family (he has 3 brothers & 4 nephews)

  8. Oh Jenny, you are too funny! Congrats on the great news. I have to wait a few more weeks for my ultrasound, but we are definitely finding out. We are not so good at deciding on names. Any decisions BEFORE my epidural this time around would be an improvement!
