Three is A Magic Number

A few months ago, when I wrote this post about the struggle I was having knowing whether or not Bobby and I were “done” having kids, reader Liz wrote this comment:

Somebody once told me you’ll always regret not having a child, but you will never regret a child you have…

Those words have stuck with me.

Which is part of the reason that when I called Emily the other day and she said, “What’s up?” and I said, “Um, you know how I’ve always said I’ll probably have an unplanned pregnancy because I’m so critical of couples who do and act like they had no idea how it happened…”

I said it with much joy and laughter!

But it’s true!

Bobby and I are thrilled to announce that we are expecting our third baby.  We’re gonna have THREE kids!!  THREE!!  And you know what the wise sages of School House Rock say:  Three is a magic number.  Yes, it is!  It’s a magic number!

We gave away all our baby stuff long ago.  I gave away all my maternity clothes.  We don’t know where we’re gonna put this kid.  I can’t fit three car seats in my car.  I had even told my pregnant cousin Anna that she could have my crib – the last baby thing we have.  Oops!  (Sorry, Annie.  I’ll make it up to you!  By having a BFF for your baby!)

But that doesn’t matter.  It’s all going to be awesome.

Bobby and I have been walking around grinning and shaking our heads at each other for the past couple of days.  We really can’t believe it.  A big surprise, not part of “the plan”, but we are sooooo happy & thankful for this new gift that God has given us.

I can’t believe it!!!! Can you??

  1. We are in the same situation. Well…maybe not quite the same. Baby #2 just turned 8 months old so we still have all of our baby stuff. But now we’re thinking how are we going to fit 3 carseats in our small cars, etc.
Definitely a big surprise and not part of OUR plan, but I guess it was part of God’s plan so we’ll just roll with it. 🙂 Hubby thinks it’s funny because I tend to be a bit of a control freak and now God is putting me in my place. Guess he’s probably right!
All the best with your pregnancy!!

  2. Oh…..Em…..Gee!!!!!!

Now I really need to move to OHIO!!!! Yaye for babies, what great news!!! When are you due and are you going to find out what you’re having? 🙂

    XOXOX

  3. Congratulations Jenny! This is exciting news! I like the comment that Liz posted on your previous post… that is so true! what joy a new child will bring to your life.

  4. Hey that was ME who said that!!
I am so happy for you, what a joy!!!
My dh and I are playing with the idea of #3 also.
Best of luck and have a very happy and healthy 9 (10) months!!

  5. YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!! Congrats!!! Three really is the magic number! It honestly might be a HUGE adjustment (speaking from experience) but you will never ever regret a moment! God is so good, He will provide everything you need for this little guy/girl, even room in the backseat of your car! 🙂

I too “thought” I was done and gave away all my baby stuff (except the crib, thank goodness).

  6. Hello my name is Jenn and I just stumble on this blog but had to comment. We too are currently expecting baby #3 in Dec 2010. This is a planned pregnancy and we toyed with the decision since our kids will now out number us :0) We are so happy and excited to welcome another miracle from God. I pray that you have a very healthy pregnancy! ~Many Blessings, Jenn

  7. Congratulations! That is exciting! We have three and the last one was a (joyful) surprise. We had to trade in our car to have a back seat big enough for three car seats. We now have a Toyota FJ Cruiser. My husband would measure every back seat we looked at just to be sure. Hope you have an uneventful and healthy nine months!

  8. What! What! What! What!!!! How did you KEEP THIS TO YOURSELF?? We had that moment in the Fondue Booth and everything??!!!! I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! Three is a good number and will totally solidify that it is a complete number to a family 🙂

And, I still have tons of baby crap you can have! Let’s hope it’s a boy cuz he should be set!

  9. I just happen to be having a garage sale with baby stuff this Thursday and Friday. My sister is selling a Graco Travel System. It’s only been through one child. It has the carseat, the stroller, and two bases. She has a high chair, too. E-mail me if you are interested. The stroller looks BRAND NEW and it’s gender neutral. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! We are expecting #2 in September. Babies are SO much fun…planned or not!

  10. Yaayyyyyy! Three IS a magic number! I have three. We didn’t “plan” any, but I’m so thankful for them. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

  11. So happy for you! And at the same time picking up the phone to make Ben a snip, snip appointment. I love my kids but Lord knows I can’t handle three or another pregnancy! I also might have some maternity clothes that would fit you!

  12. I can NOT believe it! Congratulations! I’m so happy for you and your family!

I *just* wrote a post where I was all “THREE KIDS? WTH?” and I’ve had my third for 6 months now. I don’t know when it wears off, but having gone through essentially the exact same decision-making process you described above, I can promise you that three is a magic number.

I don’t know what I was thinking with the whole “we’re done” business. We don’t know what’s good for us. Nuzzling baby feet. Now that’s good for us.

  13. SO HAPPY FOR YOU GUYS..WE DIDN’T REALLY HAVE ROOM FOR OUR #3 BUT IT ALL WORKS OUT SOME HOW.. SOME ONE EVEN BLESSED US WITH A VAN…. AND YOU WILL PROBABLY END UP WITH MORE BABY CRAP THAN YOU EVER WANTED… LOVE YOU SO MUCH SO THANKFUL TO CALL YOU MY FRIEND =)
