Recipe Swap

I’ve tried a number of new recipes lately (thank you, Pinterest) and while they haven’t all been hits, I’ve found two I absolutely loved and wanted to share.

The first is “Tangy Slow Cooker Pork Roast” from AllRecipes.com.

This pork roast is so good, I can’t even do it justice. Andy and I absolutely loved it; he said it was better than any steak he’s had in a long time (and the kids ate it too – I told them it was chicken). And it was so easy. As you may recall, I shy away from slow cooker recipes that require more effort than tossing everything in together. If I see I have to sear the meat or some such business, I move on to the next recipe. With this one for pork roast, all I did was slice an onion, put the meat in the slow cooker, and mix together an easy marinade. I served it with egg noodles and broccoli… holy yum.

The other recipe that I loved is from Cooking Light – chili corn chip pie.

It’s an at-home, slightly-less-fattening and sort-of-classed-up version of our swim team season staple, the walking taco. As I was cooking it, I said to my dad and Andy, “I have a feeling what I’m making is really complicated taco meat, and if it doesn’t taste any better than when I through a packet of Ortega seasoning in there, I’m going to be mad!” (Note: It wasn’t complicated – remember, this is me we’re talking about.) Fortunately, it was worth the (minor) effort. It was great – we all gobbled it up. I recommend making a double batch to ensure leftovers!

Those are a couple of my new favorites, but I want to hear from you. What recipes have you stumbled upon lately, or what are your old favorites?

Lands’ End – Quality Matters

Jenny & I got together on Saturday to shoot a little vlog about one of our very favorite topics – Lands’ End.

You know we love their clothes (zomg have you seen the new Ponte Collection? I’m in love) but we also love their outerwear. I was about to say “particularly for our kids” but that’s not really true – our coat closet is full of LE for all of us. It’s the best.

(I really want this, in case any of you are wondering what to get me for Christmas.)

We have a trade agreement in our family that clothes and such follow a pattern that goes: Kate-to-Sophie-to-Lily and Joshua-to-Sam-to-Jonah. The Lands’ End stuff our kids have go through those three steps and still come out looking great – it’s really kind of amazing.

Here’s a little video of the coats and jackets that have taken our kids through several seasons:

Our kids are set for their coats this year, but they needed some new winter-wear accessories, and LE was kind enough to send us some of their new things to try out. I am so anxious for Sam to try out this stuff that I am almost looking forward to cold weather. I can’t wait to see this hat on his head – it certainly looks great on Jonah!

And finally – boots.

As Jenny said, it makes sense for us to buy quality outerwear that will not only last our own kids a couple of winters, but will still look great when we pass them down to their cousins. (And with the exception of the new accessories, we did actually buy it all!)

Lands’ End is the only place we look, because they agree with us – Quality Matters.

What are you doing to get your family ready for the winter?

Fall Footwear

As I’ve said before, I’m rather shoe-challenged. I’m a terrible shoe shopper! So I’m always excited when someone wants to send me a pair for review, because then I know they’ll be fashionable and I won’t have to be left to my own devices and buy granny shoes, and I was not disappointed in the latest shoes I received from Naturalizer.

Not only am I a bad shoe shopper, but my feet are terrible and I get awful blisters from many kinds of shoes – which is why I love Naturalizer. They are so comfortable – they’re flexible, light, and soft. And they’re cute!

They’ve got lots of fun styles for fall, from tall boots to flats. Check them out on www.naturalizer.com and become a fan on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/Naturalizer.
