Pin for the Wednesday: DIY Magnetic Hair Bow Board

Welcome back to Pin for the Wednesdays! It took a one-week break to celebrate my birthday. But now that’s old news, and this weekend I actually MADE something so I am pretty excited to show you my winning pin!

Since I’ve been working with Girls Crochet Headbands, Sophie has amassed a large collection of hair bows very quickly (I can’t help it! They’re cute and the prices are good! And they had a Labor Day sale! Don’t judge me!) and I needed a way to organize them STAT.  So of course I turned to Pinterest, where I found lots and lots of ideas, and as you might expect, I chose the one that looked the easiest, this one, and made it even easier. Because crafty I’m not and lazy I am!  Here’s the pic from the original pin, of a bow board made of metal that holds the bows on with magnets.

Original pin from themotherhuddle.com

This crafty lady like, cut sheet metal and glued ribbon on and crap. NOT ME! I went the easy route. But it still worked!  I found a magnetic message board at Target for $6.

My super-awesome husband picked me up some strong, round magnets at Harbor Freight – 99 cents for 10! Woohoo!

I got some sticky letters that we already had and put them on some construction paper to spell Sophie’s name, and glued it over top of where the board said “Messages”.

Then, I stuck the metal clips on the backs of the bows to the magnets on the board and arranged them just so:

TA-DA! I am soooooo pleased with myself! The whole thing took me less than 20 minutes! Feel free to leave me a comment and tell me how awesome I am it is.

Pin for the Wednesdays: Cupcakes!

Welcome to Pin for the Wednesday! Today’s edition is going to be picture-free, because, well, I forgot to take any. But – it’s about cupcakes, so you forgive me, right?

Last week my kids decided they wanted to bake cupcakes, so of course I turned to Pinterest. My food and drinks board is 40% cupcakes and 60% cocktails, so the problem was not finding a recipe but choosing one. One that contained only ingredients that were currently found in my house, I might add. This one fit the bill – a basic chocolate cupcake from Annie’s Eats. I didn’t have sour cream, but I did have plain Greek yogurt so I used that. They were REALLY good. Andy and the kids ate theirs plain, and Andy declared it the best chocolate cake he had ever had. I also chose Annie’s recipe for cream cheese icing. I loved it (my kids scraped it off, which I consider a travesty), but now that I look at it I am fairly certain I used 8 oz of cream cheese instead of 10. Oops.

I also discovered the following day that the butter AND cream cheese I used had expired in approximately March. Oops. I didn’t die, though, and as far as I know, the neighbors we gave the leftovers to didn’t die either.

Speaking of leftovers, we had lots of un-iced cupcakes left, and I didn’t want them sitting around waiting for me to eat them, so I did a little google research and discovered it’s perfectly fine to freeze cupcakes. I wrapped them in plastic wrap and froze them until later in the week, when it was my turn to bring the Friday afternoon treat for my office.

I thawed out the cupcakes and whipped up some of this salted caramel frosting from Life on Blackberry Farm.

Oh my lord, people. This stuff was good. Looking back on it, I don’t think I cooked the caramel long enough, but that was my fault. My co-workers loved it and I may or may not have eaten it out of the bowl until I forced myself to thrown the rest down the drain. I’d definitely make this one again.

In case you were wondering, I bought brand new, unexpired butter for this one. However, cream cheese was not to be found in our little down and so I once again hoped for the best. So far as I know, everyone is still living.

This post would be a lot more exciting if it had pictures! And food poisoning. Just kidding!

Pin for the Wednesday: Eye Shadow

Happy Wednesday friends!  I’ve decided this week to combine Pinterest with something I love and can actually do – makeup! So a couple of weeks ago I pinned an eye makeup look that I thought I could replicate and I went for it.  Here’s the original pin:

I re-created it using my own makeup that I already have – I use Mary Kay.  For the brown I used one of my favorite colors, Chocolate Kiss on my eyelid, and for the orange-y shade, another I love called Amber Blaze, in the crease of my eye.  I also lined my bottom lashline with both colors, Amber Blaze below Chocolate Kiss.  I don’t have any liquid eyeliner, so I just used regular black eyeliner. I couldn’t quite get that cat-eyed look, but I still liked the results. Here’s how it turned out:

What do you think? I think I’ll keep cruising Pinterest for ideas for my #doyourmakeup looks that I post every day on Instagram. I’d love to have you join me over there!

But for now, I hope you join me over here! If you’ve been pinning and blogging about it, leave your link below! We wanna see what you’ve been whipping up!
